St. Patrick's
tradition gets
city's blessing
By Ron Calhoun
OF THE TIMES HERALD STAFF
The Greenville Avenue St.
Patrick's Day parade has re-
ceived the city's official blessing
to resume this year, but sponsors
have agreed not to extend it into
the Lower Greenville Avenue
area, where homeowners have
protested the raucous crowds at-
tracted by the zany extravaganza
in the past.
John Ahern, owner of the Car-
dinal Puffs Garden Restaurant
and Bar and president of the
Greenville Avenue Area Busi-
ness Association, said a permit
has been obtained for the March
11 parade, which will start near
Northwest Highway, head south
on Upper Greenville and end at
Mockingbird Lane, passing
through a mostly commercial
stretch.

Be aware of Greeks bearing gifts.
That was the news Friday from Spero

the Dallas World Salute planned for

Dallas World Salute, a local organiza-
tion devoted to furthering internationalrelations, will coordinate the event,
which is expected to be the first in a
series of annual activities to pay tribute
to other countries.
Among this year's scheduled events
are a Greek Cavalcade of Fashion by de-
signer Victor Costa on March 24, 1990, at
a site to be named later, and a sympo-
sium on Greek medical history at South-
western Medical Center on April 5, 1990.
Officials said other events still in the
planning stages include:A major exhibit at the Dallas Muse-
um of Art, partly drawn from the Benaki
Museum in Athens.
A Greek garden and flower festival
at the Dallas Arboretum.
A production of "Phaedra" by the
Dallas Theatre Center.
A production of "Odyssey" by the
Dallas Children's Theatre.
An exhibit of Greek costumes at theLTV Pavilion in the Arts District.

tions of Greeks to Dallas and Texas at
the renovated Hall of State in Fair Park.
