Dallas, Texas - The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) celebrates the history of
gospel music and the history of African--Americans with two monumental and innovative
programs, "Gut Bucket Gospel... From Church to Broadway" and "By a Black Hand". "Gut
Bucket Gospel... From Church to Broadway" is a revue of gospel music from notable greats
including Thomas Dorsey, The Caravans, The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Clark Sisters and
Kirk Franklin. This hard-driving journey through the ranks of gospel music will transport you
from the birth of modern gospel music to the contemporary gospel music of today. Among the
featured singers are James Henderson, Ric James, Judy Tucker and Tommye Young-West.
Conceived and directed by Curtis King, TBAAL founder and president, "Gut Bucket
Gospel... From Church to Broadway" will have you dancing in the aisles. This original revue
plays Wednesday, February 15 through Friday, February 17, 2006 at 10 a.m.; Friday, February
17 and Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 3 p m. on the
Clarence Muse Cafe Theatre stage at the Dallas Convention Center Theatre Complex.
Want to know what happens when Hip-Hop meets history? The ground-breaking original piece,
"By a Black Hand" will answer that very question. A young girl is determined to learn more
about the contributions and accomplishment of her African-American ancestors but can not seem
to get any answers. It's not until her grandfather and her favorite Hip-Hop trio comes to the
rescue, does she finally learn the true worth of her heritage. Written by Arthur M. Reese and
Darryl Goodman with Artistic Consultant Larry Leon Hamlin, "By a Black Hand" will appeal to
audiences both young and old. Enjoy this blend of history and lip-liop on the Clarence Muse
Cafe Theatre stage at the Dallas Convention Center Theatre Complex, Friday, February 24, 2006
at 10 a.m. and 8 p m. and Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 3 p.m
