The son of Hazel Cobb and Howard Christian Rather, died November 19,
2001. Graduated 1952 from Cornell University Hotel School. He was
employed by Sheraton Hotels for 42 years managing hotels in Baltimore, San
Francisco, Honolulu, Dallas, Columbus, OH, Chicago, Bal Harbour, FL,
Atlanta, and Nashville. Served as President of numerous city Hotel
Associations and President of Texas and Tennessee State Hotel Associations.
Henry served the American Hotel & Motel Association as President of the
Educational Institute. He was a member of the Dallas Chapter Sons of the
American Revolution (SAR) and served as Chairman of State Conference
Planning Committee, and he was a Life member of Dallas SKAL Club. In
lieu of flowers donations can be sent to either the Joe Hill Patriot Fund, or the
Jane Douglas Chapter NSDAR, both at 5811 Still Forest Dr., Dallas, TX. 75252,
or a charity of your choice.
To Chapter Presidents and Secretaries and members in
General.
The following changes are being proposed for approval by the membership
at the State Convention in Tyler on March 8-10, 2002
Constitutional Changes proposed for approval March 2002
Article V, section 1 is revised to add the office of surgeon:
SECTION 1. The officers of this Society shall be a President, President Elect,
Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar, Historian, Chancellor, Chaplain, Surgeon, Vice
President for Expansion, Vice President for Promotion and Media Relations,
and District Vice Presidents, whose duties shall be those as shall be
prescribed by the Bylaws. They shall be elected by a majority vote of the
delegates present at the Annual Meeting of the Society, shall hold office for
one year and until their successors are elected and qualified. Any other
officer except the President may hold the office of Chancellor.
Article V is revised to add a new section 5 which codifies a tradition that a
member will not be an officer in another state society or the National
Society and at the same time holding an office in the Texas Society.
SECTION 5 A member holding or obtaining an office in another society is by
that fact ineligible for nomination for, election to, or retention of a state office
in this society. In any such event, the President of this society shall declare the
office held to be vacant and call on the Board of Managers to fill same as
prescribed elsewhere in the constitution and bylaws of this society.
Bylaw Changes proposed for approval March 2002
Add the following Article to state the duties of the Surgeon:
ARTICLE XVI - SURGEON
The Surgeon shall be a practicing Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy licensed
by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners to practice Medicine in the
State of Texas. His duties shall be to inform and advise the Board of
Managers as to the public health matters of concern to this Society and to
render first aid in case of emergency at such meetings of the Society and the
Board of Managers as he may attend.
Revise the language contained in Article to implement the Application Fee
changes proposed in Wichita Falls.
ARTICLE XIX - FEES AND DUES
Sections 1 through 3 are stricken and replaced with new sections 1 and 2.:
SECTION 1. The annual dues to this Society are $42.00, payable to the State
Treasurer. Such dues shall be distributed as follows:
A. $12.50 - Retained by this Society.
B. $ 9.50 - Remitted to the Local Chapter in which the member holds
membership.
C. $20.00 - Transmitted to the National Society.
SECTION 2. This Society shall charge an application fee which must cover
costs related to the processing of new member and supplemental
applications. A committee composed of the State Secretary, Treasurer,
Registrar and President of the Council of Chapter Presidents will recommendCompatriot Rather in 2000.
