62 ROBERT RANKIN
KATY - A new chapter of the TXSSAR was chartered and the officers
installed on April 10, 2002. The Robert Rankin Chapter will be lo-
cated in Katy, Texas, and will meet at the Cinco Ranch Golf Club on
the second Wednesday of the month. The new officers installed were
Ed Raines, President; Kameron Searle, President-Elect; Hank Maupin,
Secretary/Treasurer; Richard Shanks, Genealogist/Registrar; Charles
Miller, Sergeant-at-Arms; Allan Henshaw, Chancellor; and Gus Mistrot,
Chaplain. Dignitaries attending included TXSSAR President Jim Rob-
ertson, TXSSAR President-Elect Dick Robinett, TXSSAR Secretary Bill
Marrs, TXSSAR Vice-President Lovell Aldrich, and TXSSAR Vice-Presi-
dent Allan Henshaw. Also attending was NSSAR Secretary General
Rice Austin. In addition to the chartering of the chapter and the in-
stallation of the new officers, Mr. Dan Taylor and Ms Sue Zanne Barnes,
descendents of Robert Rankin, presented a short program highlight-
ing the life and accomplishments of the chapter's namesake. Ms
Barnes especially thanked Mr. Sdm Houston IV, who was in atten-
dance, for the efforts of his ancestor in ensuring that Robert Rankin's
widow received her late husband's bounty land for service to the Texas
Republic in 1836. This tribute added a personal note to the occasion
and reminded everyone that these historical personages were also
people who served their fellow men.TXSSAR Jim Robertson at the iiistallation of officers for the Robert
