Milton Tobian
has a name for public
service: Family tradition
He was born on Bryan Street. He grew up on South
boulevard and Swiss Avenue. He was a boy at John
Henry Brown elementary and attended one year at Forest
Avenue High School (now James Madison) before
graduating from Woodrow Wilson High at 15, then
Rice University.
Milton Tobian has always been a Dallas man. And
he has always participated in the civic life of Dallas.
It was the family tradition.
Milton's mother is Isabelle Franklin Tobian, the
Ursuline Academy Valedictorian of 1913. At 93, she
still is civic minded and votes.
His father was the Dallas legend Louis Tobian,
cotton seed products business owner and a man devoted
to his community. Among his contributions, Louis
served 17 years as chairman of the Dallas Housing
Authority, was a director of the Dallas Community
Chest, and vice president of the Symphony.
Milton and Louis were one of two father and son
teams to be president of Temple Emanu-El in its 117
year history.Thumbs up for Granddad: Milton Tobian with grandson
Scotty Palmer and, in back, granddaughter Carolyn
Palmer, daughter Susan Palmer and husband Scott, son
Louis Tobian II, and Milton's wife Beverly. Not
pictured are daughter Laurie Schell and family (two more
Tobian grandchildren), and Beverly's daughter Julie
Cohn and family.rrj
