Revised Structure for Curriculum Task Force was presented by Jim Hutchins and Sallie
McRorie. The curriculum development project will have two strands whose work will be linked
together through the Task Force Co-Chairs.. The strands, and their respective scope of work, is
as follows:
National Working Group
Members: Sally McRorie, Jim Hutchins, Bill McCarter, Blanche Rubin, Elliot Eisner, Brent
Wilson, Mickey Day, Marilyn Stewart, Bob Donmoyer, Elizabeth Valance, Lee Hansen
and Graham Chalmers and Jacqueline Chanda.
Scope of the Work for the National Working Group: To develop a framework and scope
and sequence for DBAE and the definition of characteristics of a model DBAE unit of
instruction (content and format).
Process for National Working Group: The National Working Group will meet at least
once to complete its work. The first meeting will be a two to two and one half day
meeting, possibly February 28 - March 1, 1997. It is likely they will go out of business
after the first meeting.
The RIG Curriculum Task Force
Sally McRorie, Co-chair, Jim Hutchins, Co-chair, Cindy Mangers (NE); Nancy Rucker (FL);
Blanche Rubin (evaluation); Kim Wheetley (TN); Sydney Walker (OH); Nancy Walkup (TX),
and Marilyn Wulliger (CA).
Scope of the Work: 1996/1997. The Curriculum Task Force will: (a) review model
units submitted by each RIG to assess their utility, identify best practices developed by
the RIGS, and create a model for a curriculum unit; (b) create a plan for retrofitting or
refining at least four units from among the six submitted so that one each is completed for
grades K - 2, 3 - 5, 6 - 8, and 9 - 12; and create a plan for completing additional units
between 1997 and 2001 to serve the 36 schools, schools participating in RIG maintenance
programs, and others to whom the units can be disseminated in print or electronically.
1997 - 2001. The Curriculum Task Force will develop additional units each year that will
contribute to a sampling of units at lower and upper elementary, middle, and high school.
Together, these units will model what an exemplary, sequential DBAE curriculum looks
