What did you do with that $11.75 a month that you got?
Well, I turned it over usually to help the family, and, of
course, I bought some school clothes with it and that sort
of thing.
Were you paid by check or in cash?
I was paid by check.
And who paid you? Do you know?
The U.S. Government did.
It was definitely a government check?
Yes, I remember seeing the check. Yes, it was a government
check.
Where did you pick up your check?
I believe it was mailed to me. I believe I signed up for
that in school. I believe that's correct. I believe that's
right.
What did NYA employment mean to you in the long run? How
important was it for you at that time?
Well, money was pretty scarce, and that $11.75 a month meant
that I could buy a new pair of shoes, a new shirt, clothes.
I could buy a few things that I didn't normally have. See,
you've got to bear in mind that that's an agricultural society
back in those days, and about the only extra money that people
