Greetings!
It is our pleasure to invite you to attend Bridging the Curriculum Through Art at the Godbold Cultural
Center, Lubbock, Texas, on September 20, 1996, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This seminar is presented
free of charge by the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts (NTIEVA), a consortium of
schools and museums in the North Texas area, along with the art department of Lubbock Christian
University, Region 17 Service Center, and the Godbold Cultural Center.
This seminar is supported by grants from the Edward and Betty Marcus Foundation and the Getty Center
for Education in the Arts, an operating unit of the J. Paul Getty Trust. It will address the correlation
between the visual arts and TAAS objectives, the interactions possible between schools and museums, and
the integration of multicultural diversity through the arts.
Presentations will focus on:
" the basic concepts of a comprehensive approach to art education known as discipline-based art
education (DBAE);
* the potential for higher level thinking afforded through studying works of art;
* the impact on TAAS of the integration of art through the curriculum areas of reading, writing,
social studies, science, and math;
. models of museum/school collaboration;
* the need for art images from diverse cultures in the classroom.
On-site registration will take place in the West Wing Gallery, Godbold Cultural Center, 2601 19th Street,
Lubbock, between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. on September 20. Lunch will be provided for you.
