THE AVESTA
Persian Gods
Persian Gods atop the mountains
Crowned with snow and gleaming ice-clouds,
Hear me as I pray before you.
See this incense curling upward
From its bed of scented fire-coals ;
Smell its fragrance as it's wafted
Up and up atop the mountains,
Where it freezes into billows,
Icy billows, jade and purple.
Deep within them lies a smoke seed,
Dormant, waiting your attention.
In its billowed shell that holds it
Is my prayer to Persia's hill Gods,
Persian Gods atop the mountains.
It is smoke seed that you smell there
In its sweetened, billowed ice jade.
May it please you Tords of Persia.
IHear the clash of (elanging eymiuds,
Beating time for swaying body,
Dancing, swaying, all to please you,
Drum and cymbal beating, clanging,
Native flute and plaintive wailing,
Throbbing, sounding, footsteps beating.
Pulsing deep in Orient music,
Mystery sounded in weird calling,
Blue and jade like frozen sun-mist,
Gleams the Persian woman's costume.
Flowing strips of dreamy silk cloth,
Wrapping round the supple dancer,
Reaching to your mountain throne top,
Persian Gods atop the mountains.
Incense curling, music beating-
Worship for you eastern hill gods.
May it please you, Lords of Persia.
