Dear Cathedral Builder,
And God said, "I believe in you and I will work my miracle
through you."
That is the essence of what our call to build the first Cathedral of
the twenty-first century means. God believes in us enough to use
us to change forever, what the world believes about lesbian and gay
people. God has confidence enough to trust us with changing
forever, how lesbian and gay people feel about themselves. We can
and will change the world in our time, and for all time.
Perhaps God could have sent some angels to do this job, or said
some magical words, but that isn't how God works. When God
sought to redeem the world, God sent a person, that person was
Jesus. Since the day of Pentecost, God has continued to work
through the Body of Christ that we know as the Church.
This miracle of transformation will take place through us. We are
the ones called by God to be partners in this ministry. Now is the
time for each of us and all of us to decide what role we will play.
When Bill and I began wrestling with what we would pledge we
began with what we thought we could afford. The longer we
prayed about it the more we were willing to make a sacrifice.
Ultimately we realized that this was probably the most important
thing God would ever asked us to do. How often do we get a
chance to be a part of history? That realization motivated us to
make a pledge that was more than we ever thought possible.
In light of how generous God has been to us though, and how
important we think this ministry is, how could we do anything less.
Sacrifice. Commitment. Generosity. Some seem to think those are
four letter words. We know better. We know they are in fact the
seeds of a miracle - the miracle of a place called Hope.Blessings,
Build in us 0 God a place for love to dwell.
May its walls be strong with devotion,
May it be lighted with the joy of salvation,
May it be filled with the sweet fragrance of service,
And may all who seek you find a home
in this place we call The Cathedral of Hope!Capital Campaign Commitment
