Lighner was brought in -- as police put it --
"playing possum", pretending he had passed out.
Lighner says there was no particular reason for
the robbery spree, that he didn't need the money
and just took part in the holdups "for the
kicks." In each of the six robberies, the bandit
wore sunglasses, overcoat and snap-brim hat.
Lighner, father of four children, was considered
quiet, friendly and was well-liked around city
hall. His fellow porters said they were shocked to
hear he was a bandit. One of the most shocked was
a porter who himself has a record of two murders.
Found on the men last might was 119 dollars.
Victims of the two holdups told police they lost

six-hundred dollars.
