INSURANCE
The MBA with a major in insurance is designed to serve
two distinct groups of individuals:
1. Persons desiring to achieve an advanced academic
degree while preparing themselves for a substantial portion
of their professional designation examinations.
2. Persons who have completed one or more of the
professional designation curriculums, and who wish an in-
depth update and broadening in the academic aspects of
insurance and other basic areas of business.
The insurance concentration consists of six courses (18
semester hours) beyond the MBA core requirement.
Among the topics covered in this concentration are: risk
management techniques for the business executive; life
insurance; property and liability insurance; insurance law;
business uses of life and health insurance; and problems,
trends and developments in risk and insurance.
The orientation and content of the insurance curriculum
is influenced to a great degree by the Insurance Advisory
Council which is composed of prominent leaders in the
insurance field in Texas. This group provides continuingguidance to the faculty with regard to the planning,
implementation, and regular review of the educational
program in insurance.4
