Late in the first quarter, the 31Ponies are deep
in their own territory. Halfback Frank Jackson,spelling ailing Don Meredith quarterback, gets
key
blocks from Norman Marshall, Mike Rice and Henry
Christopher, and leaves every g behind as he
sprints 87 yards for the tying touchdown.
SCOREBOARD
Texas Tech 7, SMU 7. It remains that way through
three quarters, although Tech threatens twice more
in the first half.
AFTER CROWD
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Talkington,
from his own twenty, shoots a long pass toward
midfield. SMU's Glynn Gregory comes over to pick it
off and race back into Tech territory to set up
a tie-breaking touchdown by the Mustangs. Gregory
carries 31 yards on the return to the Red Raider 21.
