The duck population in Trinity Park in Fort Worth
is about to dwindle. Some people who watch the fat
lazy ducks glide across the pond may think there's
no easier life---but the ducks have a brace of troubles.
One of their problems is overcrowding. Too many ducks
in the pond. But now the flock is being ravaged by a
disease called "limberneck." It has claimed several
ducks already, and others are near death from the ail-
ment. Several sick ducks huddle on the shore of the
pond unable to move about in the water. Their plight
came to the attention of the park department Sunday
night. And today department foreman Harvey Pettigrew
and a crew of men begin removing the diseased ducks.
Pettigrew says they'll be treated for the disease.
Pettigrew says the public overstocked the duck pond.
People buy tiny ducks for easter and other occasions,
but the kips get tir-d of them, and the parents later
dump them in the duck pond. As a result there are now- --
