TEXAS HUMAN RIGHTS FOUNDATION ELECTS OFFICERS, NEW BOARD
MEMBERS
Austin-- At its fall 1992 Board of Trustees meeting held recently in Port Aransas,
the Texas Human Rights Foundation (THRF) elected officers for the upcoming year, as
well as four new board members.
Nancy Molleda of Houston was elected president. Molleda, the first woman to
serve as president in THRF's history, works at the Texas General Land Office as a Field
Program Specialist. Recently, she served as co-chair, with newly elected THRF Vice
President Tom Henderson, of Texas' lesbian and gay get-out-the-vote campaign for
President-Elect Bill Clinton. She has been a board member and president of the Executive
and Professional Association of Houston and has served on the State Democratic
Executive Committee.
Henderson, who is currently CEO of 4E Technologies, Inc., was a delegate to the
Democratic National Convention last July (along with Molleda) and served as Assistant to
the Commissioner at the Texas General Land Office for six years. Alan Levi, a C.P.A.
from Dallas, was elected treasurer for the fourth consecutive year; and Eric Chiarizio, an
attorney from Houston, was elected secretary for the second consecutive year.
Also of note, four new trustees were elected to the board, two from Dallas, one
from Austin, and one from Port Aransas.
Hector Garcia is an actor as well as a Captain at the Riviera Restaurant in Dallas;
he is currently working in television and radio commercials and feature films. He is Vice
Chair of the Human Services Commission of the City of Dallas, Democratic Precinct
Chair, and a sustaining member of the Dallas County Democratic Party. He was a
delegate to the Democratic National Convention last July and serves on the board of
directors of the Turtle Creek Chorale.
Jose Plata, also of Dallas, currently works in administration at the Baldwin Family
Music Center. He worked as a teacher in Dallas from 1979 to 1986 and currently serves
as Vice Chair of the City of Dallas Cultural Affairs Commission. He also serves on both
the executive committee and board of trustees for ArtReach of Dallas and for the
Sammons Center for the Arts. He has served on the City of Dallas Mayor's Hispanic
Advisory Committee and on the board for the Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico, Inc.
