HOUSE EXPLOSION -

The odor of gasoline gives Captain Tom Hearne his big
clue in the fire at 319 West Brooklyn, in Dallas' Oak
Cliff section. 23 year old Mrs. Arthur Garvin and her
three children were burned in an explosion and fire

at the tear of their duplex around noon today.

The

other half of the duplex was vacant.

A neighbor of

the Garvins, Mrs. H. C. Faram, who lives across the
street, reports hearing the explosion, and seeing Mrs.
Garvin standing in the doorway of her home, holding her

two year old son in her arms and crying for help.

The

mother and children were taken to Methodist hospital,

then transferred to Parkland in fair condition.

She

told Mrs. Faram she had been washing her husband's
clothes in gasoline shortly before the explosion, and
that the fumes probably were set off 1y an electric

iron she was using.
