A Fort Worth jury leaves the box for a recess
after hearing 60 year old Coke Parris give
testimony in his own behalf. Parris is charged
with murdering his 62 year old wife of two

told the jury

he was upstairs

in the couple's home on the day of the shooting.
"Co k-
He said his wife called to him, saying
come here." The use of his first name, he said,
was ode which meant she was in danger. He says
he walked to a dresser drawer and got a loaded
.38 caliber automatic from it    went downstairs.
He testified     he pushed the door open with
his right elbow, and doesn't remember anything

five times, and Parris was shot   r
Parris testified he feels he accidentally shot

himself, and an intruder took his gun to shoot
his wife. The state charges Parris shot his
