Muscular Bobby Bernard, who can rocket his 6-foot
five, 2-hundred four pound frame over the high
hurdles in less than 14 seconds, takes a final
workout before leaving 1 for the
National Collegiate Athletic Association track
championships in Philadelphia. TCU track coach
J. Eddie Weems says Bernard has done 13.7 in
practice and can "win the big college meet with a sub-
i 14 second effort.
LONG HE STARTS OVER HURDLES
The TCU junior from Graham is the first Frog
dIo hurdler to qualify for the national meet
since Bill Curtis made it in 1956. Bernard has
finished first eight times this season. His
latest win came last week at the Ta-e nr t of
Champions in Houston,

Along with Bernard, TCU will send its conference
high jumping champion, Jackie Upton, to the meet.
