For the first time since 1952, Dwight David
Eisenhower is visiting the North Texas town of
Denison, where he was born nearly 75 years ago,
the son of a railroad man. Shortly after Mr.
Eisenhower arrives at his old house, a baby is
thrust into his arms, amusing the former president
and delighting the photographers. The child is
Dwight David Gaines, whose father, E.F. Gaines of
Dallas, once served as an officer under Mr.Eisenhower in Europe.
Mr. Eisenhower returns Dwight to his mother,
HAND BABY BACK
then
heads for the white frame house where he was born,
October 14th, 18-90. The president spent about 20
minutes inside, once running his hand over a
quilt his mother had made, commenting "My brother
and I helped cut the scraps that went into- this
quilt." Talking briefly and informally with news-
men, Mr. Eisenhower little to say about
