The Texas Liquor Control Board will start investigating
itself tomorrow, in an effort to learn if the board is
involved in some hanky and perhaps a little panky.
The public hearing, in Austin, is expected to last
several days. Two men from the attorney generals
office will be in charges of questioning witnesses.
And there appears some doubt about who'll be there for
them to question. No subpoenas have been issued andthere are no witness fees.

However, the hearing room will certainly not be empty.
Not with a four-hundred pounder like Smokey Joe Smith
in attendance. Smith, a private-investigator from
Dallas, was indicted six times last week by the Dallas
County Grand Jury. One of the indictments concerns
alledged influence peddling in connection with a tavern
license suspension. Smokey Joe promises to blow the IE
top off the Liquor Board's investigation.
Dallas County District Attorney Wade, who is probing
