ACC national champs? That's what one person thinks.
Searching for humor the guy finally simmers down and lets
this roll out:
The Abilene Christian Wildcats are national champs yea
they're 14 points better than the Texas Aggies who are con-
ceded by most sports writers throughout the nation to be
the strongest in the land.
Here' how: ACC downed How-
ard Payne HPC waa deadlocked
.by Trinity thua making the Cats
14 point better than Trinity.
Trinity loit to Saffl Houaton by
8 point who in turn outicored
Rice by one point. At thia atage
ACC la two touchdown better
than Rice. Rice waa edged by
Baylor 10-7 cutting the Cat'a
margin to 9 polnte. Baylor down-
ed TCU 27-0 thua placing ACC
86 point ahead of the Frog.
AAM defeated TCU by three
touchdown thus making the
Christiana (ACC) exactly 14
point atronger than the Aggie.
Whew! How In the heok did he
ever get In that groove? That Is
what I oall prognostication from
a statistical standpoint and how.
ACC Just beat us 6-2 so that
makes us 11 points better than
the Aggies 10 points better than
Notre Dame and only a jump
ahead of Dame Nature our land
lord. We have no games left
to play ao If we win them all we
will probably get a bid to play
the University of Siwash In the
Pineapple iowl that is If Siwash
beata Podunk.
Sam Houston Does it this way:
"It's a well established fact that
by judicious use of comparative
football score the Einstein theory
can be proved and the National
budget balanced. It's practically
no trick at all for instance to
"prove" that Sam Houaton Teach-
er College should rate the "No. 1
team in the nation.
Sam Houaton beat Rice 0-8.
Rice tied Arkansas 12-12 making
the Bearkat a point better than
the Porkers. Arkansas smeared
Southern Methodist 14-0 so Sam
Houaton i IB point better than
SMU. SMU lost to AAM 6-2 so
Sam Houaton la 11 points better
than A&M whom moat of the ex-
pert rate the beat in the nation."
And If you think Tennessee is
best they take it a little further:
"If tarn Houston Is 11 points bet-
ter than the Aggies It must be
30 points better than Rice beoause
AAM whipped the Owls 19-0.
(How those Bearkats have im-
proved). Rioe lost to Vanderbllt
14-12 leaving Sam Houston 28
points better than the Commo-
dores. Tennessee beat the Com-
modores 13-0 so tarn Houston is
18 points better than the Vols.

Named All-Conference
At the annual meeting of the
Texas Conference coaches and of-
ficials at Dallas laat week the of-
ficial all-conference team waa se-
lected. Elected to represent Daniel
Baker on the mythical eleven was
stellar William Lee Howard rug-

squads.
The poll waa composed of the
coaches of the circuit and la con-
sidered aa the official team of the
year.
Howard ls a sophomore and
one of a few who receive such
honors in their second year. How-
ever it could easily be seen all
year by his hustle and play that
it would be hard to keep him from
attaining thia honor. He waa not
outstanding but could be depended
on to turn in a steady hard-fought
game any time. His home is
Richland Springs.
The team:
Ends Stromquist ACC and
Jensen St. Edward's.
Tackles Dendy HPC and T.
Cox ACC.
Guards Howard DBC and
Formagus St. Ed's.

the first ballot. Six players tied in
votes for the other three position.

so at the game as there will be

Coach Shorty Ransom's basket-
ball oandldates reported out to
the tune of 35 strong last Mon-
day aftsrnoon In the season's
Initial praotice session. Praotlos
had been postponed a week due to
the fact that the Qym floor was
being reconditioned for the sea-
son's meet.. The boys have been
put through stiff workouts all

will be hard to contend with In
the race this year.
Absent from this season's roster
are two regulars who were mighty
mainstays in the Billie lineup last
year. They are Jim Snodgraa
and George Allcorn. 'They both
graduated last year.
However in the lineup this year
will be two able candidates: Le-
roy O'Guinn and Andy Campbell.
O'Qulnn is from Wichita Falls and
Campbell hails from Blum. Both
of these men have stood out in
all practice sessions and are al-0
most certain to see lots of action
this year. There are alao aeveral
other good prospects who have re-
ported that will bear watching.
A whole-hearted spirit is pres-
ent among the boys and they are
showing lots of hustle and with
so many prospects coming out it
is going to be a great fight for
any individual to cinch his posi-
tion. Lettermen returning are: L. M.
