The 12 people jumping on one another and flip-
ping in the air between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. on the
soccer field are the 1978-79 cheerleaders in train-
ing.
“I am very impressed with their enthusiasm and
skill,” Spirit Coordinator Nan Hayes Lemons
said, “and I think they will be one of NT’s best
squads.”
The cheerleaders have been invited to the All-
Sports Banquet April 26 and will perform at the
Green-White spring practice game April 29.
Pending approval by Athletic Director Hayden
Fry, the squad will attend a National Cheerleaders
Association camp Aug. 13-17 in Knoxville, Tenn.
Alternates participate in all squad activities,
Mrs. Lemons said, but the official cheerleaders
receive priority in attending out-of-town games.
The new cheerleaders performed at Fouts Field
at the NT soccer game last weekend between NT
and the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle.
They also represented NT at the Bird’s Eye View
Festival last weekend when high school students
toured the campus.

Odeion To Offer
'Texas' Readings
The Odeion will present performances
of "Welcome toTexas” and “McMurtry
Country" tonight in Dallas and at the
United Ministry Center at 7 p.m. Satur-
day.
Tonight's performance is for the an-
nual Secondary English Teachers
Conference. The Saturday performance
at the UMC is free and open to the
public.
The Odeion is an ora! interpretation
group that uses “theater of the mind,”
Dr. Ted Colson of the speech com-
munication and drama facultv said.
"In oral interpretation, the emphasis
is on the literature and not the per-
former,” Texarkana graduate student
Gary Truitt, an Odeion member, said.
Members of the Odeion conduct
workshops, attend festivals and present
reading hours for the public. They also
do performances for civic groups
"Welcome to Texas,” about iO
minutes in length, is in two parts:
“Waltzing Through Texas,” written by
Dr. Colson, and "The Ballad of Sweet
Home," written by Michael McNabb,
former NT student. Dr. Colson
described the productions as experi-
ments in rhythmic choral reading based
on the names of Texas tow ns.
The second portion of the program,
"McMurtry Country,” is 45 minutes in
length and is based on the writings of
Larry McMurtry, an NT alumnus. Mc-
Murtry’s works include "Hud,” "Leav-
ing Cheyenne," and "Terms of
