THE COLLEGIAN
Moving Is Season's Top Basketball Scorer
Ray Is Second
Leading Pointmaker
With another basketball season
having been completed at Daniel
Baker one may look in retro-
spect at the campaign as one that
while somewhat disappointing
in regard to the won-lost record-
was successful.
In winning four games and los-
ing nineteen (most of the loses
being to very powerful cage foes)
the Hill Billies played an excel-
lent brand of basketball. Although
handicapped by lack of height
they nevertheless outplayed
many of their much taller oppon-
ents. Joe Moring stellar center for
DBC was top scorer for the Billies
with a total of 330 points. He sank
131 field goals and added 68 of
an attempted 102 free shots.
Next in line was Hue Ben Ray
with 227 points via 86 field goals
and 55 charity tosses.
. Pete Cole ranks third among
Billy season scorers with 46 field
goals and 32 free throws for a
total of 124 points.
Bill Miller meshed 85 points
through 34 field goals and 17 free
tosses and Everett Nicholson fol-
lowed a point behind with 33 two-
pointers and 18 single-pointers.
Jerry Helmer had 63 points
made via 20 field goals and 23
free shots. Ed Cantwell made 8
field goals and sank seven char-
ity throws for 23 points. Lloyd
Wiseman's five field goals and
three free shots were good for 13
points.
Three other players who did
not complete the season with the
Billies made a total of 120 points.
These were Joe Barnes Bob Lind-
sey and Clarence Robinett.
All together the Billies scored
a total of 1069 points or an aver-
age of nearly 47 points a game.
Daniel Baker won over Schrei-
ner Institute 48-41 edged San
Angelo College twice 46-45 and
66-59 and walloped Texas Luth-
eran 61-34.
Hue Ben Ray and Joe Moring
at a recent meeting of all players
were elected co-captains of the
1949-50 team and all eight mem-
bers and student manager Lewis
Ray received letters.

I wish they would take more time
to spell correctly. For another
thing I think they should write
me up since I'm the most fabu-
lous character in school.
Red Gilmore: There is nothing
wrong with the paper. I just wish
I could find a way to keep my
name out of it. Everyone knows
what I'm doing anyway.
NinaluUins: The paper should
be closer to student life take the
pulse of student life.
Betty Moore: Put in more gos-
sip; instead of putting who goes
with whom put who would like
to go with whom.
Dan Wilder: Fewer editorials;
more news about students.
Phil Lopez: I should like to see
more about sports.
Richard Green: The Collegian
needs a column like "Jim's Knapp
Sack."
Tad Choate: Leave out the
corny jokes. Put in more gossip-
that is all I read anyway.
Bill Armstrong: Not enough
jokes; not enough Spanish jokes
that is buenos dias.
Bill Coggin: The paper needs
'Lil'
some pretty pin-up pictures.
Neal Marbry: It needs
Abner."
Anselm Fuller: It needs a dirt
column. Second there's not
enough of the whole thing. Third
everything is ancient history in-
stead of news.
The Collegian Staff: We need
more reporters.
Oh well you can please some
of the people some of the time
and all of the people some of the
time but not all of the people all
of the time.
The atomi is the only thing
that is all it's cracked up to be.
