KNOW YOUR BILLIES
MKKT BILL GUNN
By Jim Howard
Bill Gunn has had a wide and
very successful career as an ath-
lete. Bill was an outstanding foot-
ball and basketball player at Blan-
ket High School where he won
many athletic trophies. After Bill
finished high school he entered
Cisco Junior College where he be-
gan to build his reputation not only
as an athlete who could make a
name for himself in basketball
but also as a promising young
scholar. He was voted the all-
regional basketball forward at the
Junior College Regional Tourna-
ment held in Amarillo and was
also elected to "Who's Who' by
the Cisco College Faculty in 1951.
Daniel Baker is indeed fortunate
to have this outstanding athlete
as a member of the basketball
team. To most coaches Bill is what
they would call a "dream athlete".
Bill has a wonderful attitude and
he takes his training very serious-
ly. Not only does Bill take his
training seriously but he is also
loyal to his coach and his school.
He is a good set-shot artist a
good ball handler and he has many
tricks of his own which he uses
under the basket. Bill is one of
the boys who is responsible for
Daniel Baker's offensive attack in
a game. In other words Bill starts
things clicking and keeps them
clicking all through the game. His
mild and cool manner on the bas-
ketball court has gained him praise
from a great number of opposing
coaches and players. We like Bill
and are happy to have him repre-
sent DBC as an athlete and stu-
dent. Bill to date has scored 202
points this basketball season.
Bill thinks that his best game
was against T.W.C. In this game
Bill scored 24 points and held his
opponent to 4. It is hard for us to
determine which game Bill was
best in due to the fact that he is
exceptionally good in all of our
games.
Bill likes swimming movies and
eating home cooking but most of
all he likes basketball and Daniel
Baker. Daniel Baker has had its
ups and downs in basketball dur-
ing the past few weeks. However
with boys like Bill Gunn on our
team we must stop and consider
that they have done well and will
do better in years to come. So
let's all get behind our boys and
support them with all we have. Our
Billies play good games considering
that they have to cope with oppon-
ents who are three to four inches
taller than themselves. The ball
handling hustle spirit sports-
manship and love of the game
are more important than all other
aspects of basketball. Our team
has that great spirit so let's help
them all we can.
