with particular emphasis on the
outlook for the approaching vege-
table deals. Everyone interested is
urged to attend.
Miss Wanda Lee Smith of this
city accepted a position with the tele-
phone company here recently.

Mrs. E. J. Buyher
Dies At Terrell
Funeral services for Mrs. E. J.
Buyher, 77, pioneer resident of Van
Zandt County, who died at Terrell
Jan. 28, were conducted there with
burial in the Oakland Cemetery Jan.
29. Mrs. Buyher was the mother of
Mrs. J. R. Lee and Luther Buyher of
Grand Saline.
Widow of the late E. J. Buyher,
Mrs. Buyher came to Van Zandt
County in 1907 with her husband and
family. They were parents of 11
children, 10 of whom survive. A son
Doyle, is dead.
Survivors include six daughter^,
' Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Ollie Reynolds of Elmo,
Mrs. Oscar Horton, Mrs. Fred Ben-
nett, Mrs. Graydon Skinner and Miss
| Eula Mae Buyher, all of Terrell; four
j sons, Luther of Grand Saline, Ray
Buyher of near Abilene, Ernest Buy
I her of Terrell and Loren of Superior
I Arizona; three brothers, one sister
42 grandchildren, 45 great-grand
children and one great-great-grand
child.
Thursday, FVebruari
will sing, rendering a special num-
ber following the message. Dr. Storer
is a member of the Sons of the A-
mjrican Revolution, the Southern His-
torical Society, a 32nd degree Mason
and holds many positions of trust and
leadership among Southern Baptists.
He was elected from 22,000 preachers
of the South to preach the May con-
vention sermon in Miami, Fla.
Former Resident Killed
DALLAS—William Lee Thompson,
25, son of the late Earl Thompson, a
former Grand Saline resident, was
killed instantly late Monday when
the automobile in which he was an
occupant crashed into the rear of a
truck on Highway 75 near Ledbetter.
His two brothers, J. P., 27, and Ray,
21, were seriously injured. Funeral
for Thompson was held Wednesday
at Kaufman. The father died Jan. 14.
\ The youth was a nephew of Tull
Thompson, Mrs. Elzie Simpson and
1 Mrs. Shorty Hawkins, all of Grand
j Saline.

The Main Street Baptist Church
has organized a Young Women’s As-
| sociation. The organization is under
the direction and leadership of Mrs.

In a meeting held Monday night,
Feb. 4, tlie following officers were
elected. President, Mary Jo Jennings;
Vice President, Bobbie Collins; Secre-
tary-Treasurer, Davie Jean Canfield.
The Y. W. A. meets every Monday
at 6:30 p. m. Everyone is invited to
attend these meetings.

New Mexico Man Jan. 30.
Announcement was received here
this week of the marriage of Mrs.
Jewel Woods of Lubbock, formerly
of Grand Saline, to 'Bill Allen of
Hobbs, N. M. The marriage was
solemnized at 4:30 o’clock Wednes-
day afternoon, Jan. 30, at the Lulb-
bock Baptist Church with the Rev.
Mr. Richards, pastor, performing the
single ring ceremony.
The bride wore a two-piece suit of
light blue, with black and white ac-
cessories. Her corsage was of Dink
carnations.
Attending the ceremony were the
j bride’s sons, Herrnon Woods of Oak-
land, Calif., and Paul Woods, Jr., of
Lubbock; Mr. and Mrs. N. U. Mc-
Bride, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rolberson
of Lubbock, and several Hobbs guests
of the groom and close personal
friends.
After a short wedding trip to Old
Mexico, the couple will make their
home in Hobbs.

nounce the arrival of a daughter,
Doris Arlene,, Feb. 4, at the Alex-
ander Hospital, Terrell. Both mo-
ther and baby are doing fine.

boy, born Jan. 31, at the Garland.
Clinic. The young man has been named'
Johnnie Carroll. Mrs. McKinney is
the former Wilma Claud Riggs. Both
mother and son are doing nicely.

born Felb. 1. The young lady has been
named Judy Nelle.
New Hopper Press Added

Dick Humphrey, owner of Grand
Cleaners, announced this week that a
new Hopper Press has been added
to the firm’s equipment, designed to
imprewe the skill of pressing work
in the plant.
The new press will enable a presser
to reach inaccessible places in clothes
which cannot be reached with the
ordinary press, and permit a finer
piece of workmanship.

The gold star in lieu of a second
Air Medal came as a result of “cour-
age demonstrated in carrying out at-
tacks Aug. 5, 1945, while flying a
j Navy Privateer search aircraft over
[enemy positions in the Celebres. far
from friendly territory.
“He (Proctor) participated in a
series of attacks which resulted in
the destruction of two trucks loaded
with enemy troops, a two-master
schooner, a large tug and a motor-
cycle, and in the damaging of a large
and important Ibuilding.”
Proctor, who spent Christmas and
New Y’ear holidays at home with his
mother, was promoted to radioman
second class for his part in the three
engagements. He is stationed in New
Y’ork now.
The second gold star in lieu of a
third Air Medal was “for a series of
meritorious acts while participating
in five aerial flights in a combat area
where enemy anti-tircraft fire was
expected to be effective or where
enemy aircraft patrols usually oe-
! cured.”
