THE EFFICIENT SECRETARY
Business men are willing to pay
a premium for a well-trained sec-
retary. So much depends on how
well their office details are carried
out. An efficient secretary may make
herself an indespensable part of an
office by knowing in minute details
what her duties are and then being
able to perform those duties.
“Send us a secretary that not on-
ly knows how to take dictation and
transcribe her notes accurately but
in addition one who has some com-
mon sense as well as familiarity
with office routine” is a request fre-
quently made of us by business men.
The young lady who has a high
school education and a pleasing
personality could qualify in the Ty-
ler Commercial College in a very
short time to meet just such a re-
quirement as outlined above.
There are such wonderful oppor-
tunities in business now for the
well trained. Our suggestion to this
year’s high school graduate is to
make some investigation through
the Tyler Commercial College, Tyler,
Texas. This school has an excellent
reputation among the business con-
cerns in the Southwest. Their di-
ploma means much when you applj
for an office position,.

SMOKERS’ CANCER
The “smoker’s cancer” is not a
mtere word, nor a fantastic creation
of some fanatic' preacher of anti-to-
baceoism. It, unfortunately, is a very
sad reality.
The tobacco consumption increases
from year to year, and in the same
measure increases the cancers of
mouth, lips larynx, pharynx and
lungs which are the main localiza-
tions, the smoker’s cancer.
In order to give an idea of this in-
crease, we need only to pick out of
the rich statistical material of our
institute, thi*ough the gates of which
have already passed more than 90,-
000 patients'—a few figures. These
figures do not only refer to cancer
mortality, but also to cancer morbid-
ity, wjhich is of .great importance,
because not all of these locations'—
as for instance, that of the lips—are
of a fatal issue.
Thus we see that in the year 1934,
88 cases of larynx cancer have been
treated at the Institute, while in 19-
39 there were 211. A similar pic-
ture shows the lung location, with
24 cases in 1934, and 76 in 1939.
The different cancers of the res-
peratory tract constitute nowadays
more than the third part of all the
cases with this terrible disease.—■
