District VII, Texas Garden
Clubs, Inc. will hold its annual
fall convention in Hondo, on Nov-
ember 2nd and 3rd. Registration
will be from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30
p.m. at Hondo Municipal Audi-
torium. The fee is $6.00. A
tour of the hill country and the
Collins bag factory will leave
the auditorium at 1:00p.m.,Nov-
ember 2nd.
The Board will meet at 4:30
p.m. in the auditorium, the Board
dinner will be served at 7:30
p.m. in the Baptist Fellowship
Hall. Guests are welcome and the
dinner charge is $3.50.
The general meeting will con-
vene at 10:00 a.m. on November
3rd in the American Legion Hall.
Lunch will be served at the Meth-
odist Fellowship Hall. The con-
vention program will be at 2:00
p.m. in the American Legion Hall.
Mrs. Charles Griggs ofSweet-
water, Texas will be the conven-
tion speaker. Mrs. Griggs is an
outstanding floral artist, a posi
outstanding floral artist, a poised
speaker, and is no stranger to
our District, having presented a
previous program for us in the
fall of 1968. She also delighted
those who were lucky enough to
hear her at the State Convention
in El Paso in the sprlne of 1971.

visiting his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Russell E. Mathisen of
this city. He will report to the
USS Detroit (AOE-4), a fast
combat support ship, currently
deployed in the Atlantic.
Mathisen, a 1970 graduate of
Aransas Pass High School, att-
ended the University of Houston
for a year before entering the
Navy in June. He attended boot
camp in Orlando, Florida and
then was stationed at Bain-
bridge, Maryland for Yeoman
School. He graduated last Fri-
day and was promoted to the
rank of Petty Officer 3rd
Class.
