Happy New Year!
Now that the holidays are history, the town is
getting back to business improving roads, drainage,
and other issues. The Town Council authorized
funds to bring in additional used concrete drain pipe.
Our town engineer, Bob Shawn, has completed
studies for drainage improvements on La Vista,
Kings Road, and Simmons. Probably all the pipe that
we can find will be used in these projects.
Police Sergeant Bobbie Braud is to be
commended for highly professional conduct and
courage under dangerous circumstances when she
faced down an individual armed with a sawed-off
shotgun. Most of what the Double Oak police are
asked to do is routine investigation and traffic
control. However, they are trained and armed to
handle dangerous situations. It is gratifying to
acknowledge superior performance in a very
stressful encounter.
There was an outstanding turnout for the
December 10, 1994, pothole day. Unfortunately, the
weather did not cooperate. Though the day dawned
bright and clear, several days of rain made the
streets too wet to hold the repair material. If the
bottom of the pothole is wet, the repair material
doesn’t bond well and all the effort is wasted. Repair
day was postponed until December 17, 1994. Rain
during that week again made pothole repair
impossible. The following Saturdays were Christmas
Eve and New Year's Eve, bad choices for town
work days.
But in Double Oak, we’re persistent. January 7,
1995, is the first Saturday of the year. Let's try
again! Mike Holland continues to volunteer to make
and post the signs. Watch for the pothole signs, and
we’ll see you on the 7th. Let's hope to start the year
with clear, dry weather. From all of us at Town Hall
and the Cook family, have a happy and prosperous
new year!
