WCCC Slates Four
Golf Tournaments
There will be four major
golf tournaments coming up
at the Winkler County
Country Club and with the
increase in the number of
players entrants will need to
make plans and enter early to
assure your spot, according to
Rex Worrell, W.C.C.C. golf
pro.
The first tournament will
be a Pro-Lady tournament
which will be played
Tuesday, July 29. A noon
buffet will also be served
beginning at 12:30 p.m. to
3:30 p.m.
On August 9 and 10
W.C.C.C. will host the Lions
Club Annual Scramble
Partnership. The entry fee
will be $40 per team the
deadline for the entrants will
be Wednesday, August 6 at 8
p.m.
A Father-Son Golf
tournament will be played
Sunday, August 17. Entry
fees will be $10 per team
with additional sons being $5
each. Deadline for all entries
will be Friday, August 15 at 8
p.m.
The First Annual
Member-Guest Partnership
tournament is to be held
September 6-7. Entry fee will
be $50 per team. The
deadline for all entries will be
Wednesday, September 3.
Worrell states “Let’s make
this one a tournament to look
forward to each year. There
are many non-members who
would like to team up with a
club member and play in this
tournament. If you would
like some help in contacting a
partner for the tourney,
contact the Golf Shop and we
will be more than happy to
assist you.”

Miss Clarkston Wins
Volleyball Honors
Brenda Clarkston, Olympic Volleyball
granddaughter of Mr. and Tournament that was held in
Mrs. Hugh Moore of Kermit, Detroit, Michigan, June
has added All-State 25-28. She also played in the
Volleyball honors to her list East-West Texas All-Star
of post season awards. Brenda game on July 11 at Howard
is the daughter of Mr. and Payne University in
Mrs. Bob Clarkston of Irving. Brownwood which Mr. and
Mrs. Moore attended. Brenda

Nimitz High School in Irving which won the game,

held a karate demonstration at his newly opened Karate School, located-at 223 South
Mulberry in Kermit. This is the third school to be opened by Park in West Texas.
Pecos Tourney, July 24
Tennis action goes into
full swing July 24-27 as
Trans-Pecos Raquet Club
sponsors a four day
tournament in Pecos,
according to club officers.
Under the supervision of
the area club, the events will
feature two divisions of play,
with high school and under
age groups filling one division
and adults comprising the
second group.
Players will be required to
furnish one optic yellow ball
for each event they enter.
Entry fees for the meet will
be $3 per person per event.
Persons wanting to enter
the meet may contact either
Richard San Roman at First
National Bank or Jimmy
McAnally at 445-2220 after 6
p.m. in Pecos.
Tournament entries need
not be a member of the club
to participate. Out of town
players are also encouraged to
take part in this first event of
the net calendar.

Singles and doubles action
for men and women as well as
mixed doubles will fill the
roster of events in the
tournament which will also
feature a AA division for
men’s play.
High schoolers and under
will get the events off to a
start July 24 as they take to
the courts for preliminary
action at 8 a.m., followed by
the finals at the same time
July 25.
At the conclusion of the
younger bracket play, the
adult groups take to the
courts on July 26 to start the
competition in their classes of
competition. All rounds will
start at 8 a.m. and continue
until the conclusion of the
daily schedule.

Kermit Bees
Crush Andrews
11-4, Saturday
The Kermit Lady Bees
softball team scored an
outstanding victory Saturday
night when they completely
dominated the team from
Andrews by a score of 11-4 at
Little League Field.
The Bees have collected a
fantastic record of 10 wins
and one loss thus far in the
season.
Kermit had 36 trips to he
plate with six hits and
Andrews collected five hits
with being at bat 29 times in
the game.
In the first inning, the
Bees took a 2-0 lead with
runs scored by the>;
centerfielder, Marietta Hix,
and first baseman, Jerry
Willmon. Willmon and second
baseman Brenda Stuart
connected with singles in the
inning.
Andrews was shut out in
the first two innings of the
game.
The Bees added another
three runs to their lead in the
bottom of the second inning.
Hix, Edna Pryor and Toni
Willmon scored the runs.
Andrews came alive in the
top of the third and
connected with four singles
and three runs to cut the
Bees’ lead to 5-3.
Dee Greene, pitcher for
the Bees, scored the only run
for the team in the bottom of
the third inning.
Kermit put the game away
in the fourth when they
scored five runs with no hits.
Pryor, J. Willmon, Debbie
Seales, Greene and Tammy
Compton scored the final
runs for the Bees.
Andrews’ final run came in
the top of the fifth inning.
Leftfielder Quita scored the
run.
McKinley
Takes First
Cheryl Lynn McKinley,
granddaughter of Mr. and
Mrs. T- S. Mills of Kermit,
recently participated in the
Lubbock Track Meet, which
was held Saturday.
Cheryl had a outstanding
day on the track as she placed
first in the 100 yard dash and
was a member of the 440
yard relay team that won
third place in the meet.
She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Earl McKinley of
Carrington.
Cheryl will now compete
in the State Finals which will
be held in Grand Prairie
Friday and Saturday, July
25-26.
