Several gathered on the
Square in Cooper to help in
the beautification process.

of Kay’s Korner extends a
big thank you to those that
took the time to help in the
cleaning and preparation
of the planting beds.
“Lynn Morris, Karen
Atkins, Kathy Houchins
and her granddaughters -
Hope and Harlie Houchins
and Ophelia Banks all
helped this past Saturday
with cleaning and prepar-
ing of the beds around the
crepe myrtles and plant-
ing flowers,” said Kaywin
Conley.
With upcoming Gradu-
ation events this Saturday
she is postponing the next
scheduled work day.
“I was just thrilled with
the help,” added Conley.
“They liked to dig in the
dirt as much as I do.”
She will make sure to
inform citizens prior to the
next day as they are mak-
ing plans for the future of
the fountain and hopes to
a new coat of paint on the
gazebo.

Salutatorian
Katelyn Mechelle Cook
This year’s valedictorian is Katelyn Cook. Katelyn was
bom on October 28th, 1997. She has two sisters, Kezli and
Kylie Cook. During high school she has been involved
in many extra-curricular activities. Katelyn is the presi-
dent of the Fellowship of Student Athletes, President of
the Spanish National Honor Society, Treasurer of the Na-
tional Honor Society. She is also an officer of Health Oc-
cupations Students of America, and reporter of her class.
Katelyn has also been a part of student council, key club,
academic UIL and the certified nurses’ aid program with
the Health Science class.
Katelyn also was a regional qualifier in tennis and cross
country and received most valuable player for both her ju-
nior year and senior year. She again qualified for regionals

in tennis as a senior. After she graduates high school, she
will attend Texas A&M University in College Station and
she will major in kinesiology to pursue a career in sports
medicine.
This year’s salutatorian is Kaylie Wright. Kaylie was
born on November 4th, 1997 to her loving parents Ken
and Chrisi Wright. She has two older brothers, Dakota
and Hunter Wright. Kaylie competed in academic UIL her
elementary and junior high years. Kaylie was a member of
the basketball team and track team. She was also a mem-
ber of the Student Co uncil and National Honor Society.
Kaylie plans to attend Texas A&M University-Com-
merce and major in secondary math education and a minor
in accounting.

The Friends of Doctors Creek
Park would like to thank ev-
eryone that participated in the
recent Catfish Tournament.
Thanks to all the sponsors of
the event, Colton Wicks from
Paris Optical, Liberty Ranch,
Fatboys BBQ, PPF Gin and
Warehouse, Latson's Print-
ing, Enloe State Bank, Dun-
can Insurance, Johns' Creek
Lodge and Macy Inmon DDS.
Thanks also to the ones that
donated nice prizes for the
special drawing of the fisher-
men.
It was a great day May 14
with the fishermen, and Eddie
Trapp cooking fish and serving
everyone that wanted a taste.
The fishermen entered into the
tournament were from Cooper
and other areas of East Texas
such as Sulphur Springs, Dike,
Hugh Springs, and Saltillo.

City of Cooper Councilman Willie "Bear" Wilkins pays his respects to his father, Abner,
who served our Country in the U.S. Army and during World War II, this past Saturday during
the placement of American flags by the American Legion Red Henderson Post 483. He was
assisted by several Bulldog football players. See more photos inside this edition.

Bridges honored with the fourth annual Robnett Scholarship

Wesley Bridges was given
Wesley Bridges
the honor of the fourth annual
$500 Ed Robnett and Marshall
Robnett Scholarship Award.
Ed Robnett
Bridges is a senior at Coo-
per High School and the son
of Charles Bridges and Sonja
Bridges.
“Wesley [Bridges] is a hard
worker with good discipline
and good ethics,” said his Coo-
per Bulldogs Athletic Direc-
tor and Head Football Coach
Ronnie Green, on his two-way
starter.
Bridges managed to find
time to practice and keep up
with his grades while working
at Wal-Mart. He brought home
two awards from this year’s
All-Sports Banquet. He started
on defense for the Bulldogs.
Some of his accolades in-
cluded 2015-16 1st Team All-
District Defense, All-District
Honorable Mention Offence
and All Red River Valley Hon-
orable Mention Defense as well
as participating in FFA.
Bridges hit the turf wearing
his No. 6 jersey weighing in at
150-pounds and 5-foot-10.
The honoree entrusted with
the Robnett Scholarship plans
to move to Sherman and go
to college in Grayson for two
years and then transfer to Texas
A&M University-Commerce
to earn his Bachelors degree
and become a construction
manager.
The scholarship is given in
honor of former Klondike
residents and Bulldog football
players from the 1930s. Both
Ed Robnett and Marshall Rob-
nett excelled in the classroom
and on the football field at
Cooper. Both played football at
Texas A&M University on the
1939 National Championship
Team.
William Edward Robnett was
an American football fullback
in the All-America Football
