The third through sixth grade
students were able to use vot-
ing machines at city hall for
their balloting
To be eligible to vote, the
students must have read or had
read to them at least five of the
lh books on the ballot and
nearly 100 percent of the stu-
dents qualified, with 122 stu-
dents from Cook voting and
368 from Sheldon blaschke.
The favorite book for both
schools was There's .1 Hoy in
the (iirls' Huthroom The
bluebonnet Reading Program
is a statewide program and in
the spring, the author of the
book most popular with Texas
children will be recognized.

BA degree from
Southwest Texas
Deborah Ann Phillips, daugh-
ter of David and Barbara Phillips
of Portland was a December
graduate of Southwest Texas
State University with a bA degree
in journalism advertising.
Miss Phillips served as presi-
dent and treasurer of Gamma Phi
beta Sorority, selection chair-
man of the Student Foundation,
and was a member of the Alpha
Delta Sigma Advertising Honor
Society, and the Order of Omega
National Greek Honor Society.
She was a member of the Out-
standing College Students of
America, the Society of Disting-
uished Scholars, SWTSU Panhel-
lenic Sorority Pledge of the Year.
SWTSU Panhellenic Sorority-
Woman of the Year nominee, and
SWTSU all school Gaillardian top
12 favorites presented at the 1989
Homecoming game at San Mar-
cos. Miss Phillips also worked at
the school newspaper, The Uni-
versity Star, as sales manager.
A 1985 graduate of Gregory-
Portland High School, Miss Phil-
lips has been employed at the
Houston Chronicle as an adver-
tising account executive.
Miss Phillips is the granddaugh-
ter of Dorothy Phillips of Aransas
Pass and the late David Phillips,
Sr. and Alma and Tony Tamburin
of Ingleside.
