St. Paul, September ii.—A
Pioneer Press special from Bis-
marck says the complete .en-
campment of Iudians at Stand-
ing Rock shows only four hun-
dred and fifty lodges, arid a to-
tal of not over four thousand
Indians. Rations have' hereto-
fore been issued ou the basis of
seven thousand, front which it
would appear that nearly three
thousand are absent, or else a
large amount of stealing has
been done. The Indians are
known to have returned from
hostiies, but so stealthily that
they could not be caught. All
attempts to disarm the hostiies
have therefore proved abortive.
