In "Home Stretch"
The Texas Conference football
race goes into the "home stretch"
during the next two weekends
and is generally considered that
Abilene Christian will be the 1952
champion. ACC unbeaten in con-
ference play has one game re-
maining Howard Payne at Abi-
lene Nov. 27.
McMurry the only team with a
chance to share in the title with
the Wildcats tangles with Texas
A&I in Kingsvillc Saturday night.
If McMurry outdoes the Javclinas
and HPC upsets ACC the Indians
and the Wildcats would be co-
flag holders.
McMurry toppled Howard
Payne 38-26 in Brownwood last
week to remove any Yellow
Jacket championship hopes. At
the same time Austin College was
beating Texas A&I 24-20. ACC
tied Fort Sam Houston 21-21 in a
non-conference game.
Saturday Austin College meets
mighty East Texas State at Com
mcrce. East Texas is unbeaten
and untied.

and a few minutes later
CantweU sliced off tackle the
last 20 yards to count. The
Redman soon took advan-
tage of another break. A Yel-

in punt formaUon went wide
and Jacket Dave Smith was
forced to recover on the 13.
as the Indians took posses-
sion. Payne scored In two
plays.
Howard Payne then drove
downficld to cheer the homecom-
ing crowd. Mclvin Lindscy lob-
bed a pass to White for the final
yardage in a drive which covered
64 yards. The first half ended
with McMurry owning a 25-13
lead.
In the opening moments of
the second half McMurry
struck again driving 59
yards via the ground. Little
quarterback Mickey Martin
who masterminded the Indian
offense all afternoon puUed
a perfect bootleg play fool
ed the whole HPC defense
and went around right end
for 27 yards and the scorei
Conaway booted good.
Four plays later an Indian
lineman put his name in the scor-
ing column. Senior Bob Loving
intercepted a Lindscy aerial and
rambled 30 yards to make it 38-13
for the visitors.
The Yellow Jackets added two
tallies in the final quarter but it
was too late. The first came on
a 77-yard drive capped by a 46-
yard jaunt by Don Low. The
final 51-yard drive was high-
lighted by a 29-yard pass from
Lindsey to White to the 5. Low
powered across from that point
and scoring ended at 38-26 for
McMurry.
