The Fifth Annual Kermit
Jaycee Peewee Boxing
Tournament was held Friday
and Saturday in Kermit Junior
High Gymnasium.
First place honors were
presented to the Kermit club as
nine club members took first
place and an additional five
were awarded second place in
their bouts.
Kermit fighters receiving
first place awards were Randy
Jones, Tony Ruiz, Tony
Coleman, Carl Fason, Eddie
Wallace, Gary Inskeep, Joe
Inskeep, Dale Jenkins and
Tommy Fason. Winning second
place awards were Mark
Flowers, Mike Keel, Earl Diller,
Ernie Edwards and Mike
Hayes.
The Andrews team won the
team sportsmanship trophy.
At the conclusion of the
bouts Saturday night, Kermit
Jaycees presented the Monte
Cooley Memorial
Sportsmanship Award to Ernie
Edwards. The award is
presented each year to a
member of the Kermit club in
memory of a club member who
was killed in action in Viet
Nam.
Since the Kermit team won
more individual fights than any
other team participating in the
tourney, the Kermit club also
captured the first place team
trophy.
Teams from Andrews,
Pecos, Odessa Boys Club and
W oodson Boys Club were
entered in the annual event,
although neither Odessa Boys
Club nor Woodson Boys Club
attended the tourney Saturday.
Near the end of the fighting
Saturday a Pecos coach became
upset with the Kermit referee
and, after entering the ring,
decided to take his club back
to Pecos.
