constructed on the
Courthouse lawn was stepped
up last week at the concrete
floor for the room was
poured.

Kermit pharmacist Joe
Arledge was appointed to a
position on the Board of
Education of Kermit
Independent School District
during a special meeting
Monday afternoon.
Arledge was appointed to
fill out the term vacated
when former Board President
Gilbert Phillips resigned.

improvements of Winkler
County Memorial Hospital
were aired Monday morning
at a regular meeting of the
board of directors.

G. R. and Charles H.
Sparenberg were in Kermit
this weekend inspecting
progress on the business
building under construction
between the Kermit State
Bank and Dunlap’s on West
Austin Street. The
Sparenberg brothers are
building a modern store
building which will be leased
to C. R. Anthony Compnay,
a department store chain.

The Thursday meeting of
Kermit Downtown Lions
Club was a general warm-up
for the broom and mop sale
on Oct. 18, each member
being encumbered with a red
whisk broom which he is to
bear until next Thursday on
pain of financial penalty.

Kermit State Bank will
award a $25 series “E”
savings bond to the 250th
patron of its new drive-in
depository and a $50 bond to
the 500th, John P. Gammill,
president, announced
Wednesday.
The new facility for
depositors will begin
officially on Monday, Oct.

Explosion of a main leader
in a gas line Thursday
morning caused a $50,000
fire which was fought by for
an hour and a half by Wink
and Kermit fire departments
at the C. V. Lyman gasonline
plant three miles east of Wink
on the Monahans Highway..

Mr. and Mrs. Gerthen Wilson,
was elected Kermit High
School Football Queen
Monday by the Yellow Jacket
Squad.
Mary Curtis and Dorothy
Thompson will be her
attendants.

winning the 8-AA District
curtain raiser last week at
Andrews, the Yellow Jackets
were taking things easy the
first of the week.
