Addresses Hospital Auxiliary
About 18 auxilians met at the hospital for the November
meeting. The hospital CEO gave a very encouraging report
of the status of the hospital. He told the auxiliary the health
fair was a great success. He introduced Jennifer Asbury, Chief
Nursing Officer. She greeted the auxiliary with enthusiasm
and stated how happy she was to be in our hospital. She comes
from Abilene, Texas.
The administrator, Rick DeFoore, asked the auxiliary to fur-
nish nine rooms with new furniture. He said the cost would
be $30,000.00. Later the auxiliary voted to purchase the fur-
niture for the hospital.
Sharon Selby gave a report from the jewelry sale. It was a
profitable fund raiser. The auxiliary voted to repeat the sale
next year if the company agrees.

the Assistant Conference
Director, Accreditation
Coordinator, and a teacher
at the International Nurse
Symposium in March of
2009 held in Kenya, Africa.
She wrote over 59 course
hours for the Symposium.
Asbury has also served as
a guest lecturer at Hardin-
Simmons and is affiliated with
national and local chapters of
the American Association
of University Woman, the
American Association of
Critical Care Nurses, the
American Association of
Neuroscience Nurses, and
the National Nursing Staff
Development Organization.
All in all she hopes to carry
on her philosophy of nursing
into her new position at
Stamford Memorial Hospital
focusing on the “healing
art of nursing comprised
of the synergistic trilogy of
human physiology, human
psychology, and human
spirituality.” She draws
inspiration from Florence
Nightingale and loves this
quote from her, “Nursing
is an art; and if it is to be
made an art, it requires as
exclusive a devotion, as hard a
preparation, as any painter’s or
sculptor’s work; for what is the
having to do with dead canvas
or cold marble, compared
with having to do with the
living body - the temple of
God’s spirit? It is one of the
Fine Arts; I had almost said
the finest of the Fine Arts.”
