Mafia Fuentes is SDHS Student of the Week
by Sara J. Luera
NHS Reporter
The best advise given to
Marla Y. Fuentes was to set out to
do what she wanted and not to
pay attention to disapproval.
Maria is active in C-X debate,
One Act Way, Drama Club, FS A,
Volleyball, Freshman Class
Treasurer, Band and UIL Liter-
ary Criticism.
During her spare time, you
can find her asleep, on the phone,
with her friends or supporting the
cable company.
She looks for someone that
isn't concerned with presenting
people with a false image as a
friend. The person also has to
have the ability to be free with
their feeing and they have to see
Qievy
in a
Chase
the point
movie.
She advises other students to
make decisions that are positive
for them, not for others.
When asked how it felt to be a
freshman, she replied, "I com-
pare it to racing in the Indy 500.
the further you have raced, the
more you don't want it to end."
If given a chance to wish for
anything in the world, she'd wish
for an endless vacation get away
on a carnival cruise with my
family.
Her future plans are to attend
a high-ranked university, pos-
sible UT and major in a science.
Marla also enjoys spending
time with her four active nieces.
She likes meeting and talking
with different people.
Her goals this year are to
acheive high grades, participate
in school activities, help Mrs. Jaz
Lopez with the fine art of driving
standard and to reduce her phone
bill.
She admires her parents
strength and patience to over-
come obstacles in life.
Her pet peeves are dragging
herself out of bed at 5-6AM on
weekends, and people who are
self-centered, egotistical, and
two faced. Too much salt in her
popcorn and watered down coke
annoys her also.
Her siblings are Tius, Esby
and Minnie. They all live in Al-
ice. Myra is attending college in
Austin. She's close to all of them,
but especially Myra. She's the
one that always hears her out
They help each other out.,
As a family they travel to dif-
ferent places in the Southwest
and spend time catching up on
various tasks.
Marla is the daughter of Min-
erva and the late Femardo Fuen-
tes.

In other business, the board
directed Bazan and Jaime Garza
to contact auditor Romulo Garza
and impress on him the urgency
for the agency's audit to be com-
pleted. Board member J. M.
Rodriguez said he had contacted
the Texas Water Rights Commis-
sion and had beeh told that after a
90-day delinquency of the audit,
the water district would be fined
for any further delays.
• approved an order to adver-
tise for a county depository; and
• tabled action on the purchase
of a copier for the County Clerk's
office until the bids are analysed.
The court also tabled action
on awarding an ambulance con-
tract for San Diego after receiv-
ing four bids ranging from
$49,500 to $60,000. The court
extended the contract with the
current carrier for a period not to
exceed 30 days to provide the
court time to study the issue. All
bids substantially exceed the
current contract.
Finally, the court named
Uresti to be their representative
to the Coastal Bend Council of
Governments and the Commu-
nity Action Council of South
Texas. Ernesto Gonzalez will be
Uresti’s alternate at the COG an
