VWWII Gives
WASP Effort
Full Support
William R. Manson, Executive
Director of the Veterans of World
War II, announced his organiza-
tion's support of the current effort
before the Congress to secure
veterans' status for Women Air-
force Service Pilots. Manson
stated that these women should
have been granted veterans bene-
fits at the close of WWJI and this
time they have an opportunity to
get it.
"These pilots towed targets, flew
searchlight and tracking missions,
ferried every aircraft the factories
produced, towed gliders and the
dangerous job of test-flying air-
craft red-lined as dangerous. They
have on other occasions sought
veterans' status but the Veterans
Affairs Committees buried them
midst piles of papers, some of
which concerned matters that
were non-military in nature or less
military-trained and oriented or-
ganizations than the WASP."
Manson further stated that, "Al-
though we are not as big as the
Retired Officers Association, the
Reserve Officers Association and
the Air Force Association, the
three national veterans' groups
who are on paper supporting them,
I believe we should do everything
we can to help these women
pilots." He urged any individual of
his or any military organization to
write to their own Senators and
Representative or to Sen. Barry
Goldwater or Rep. James H.
Quillen, (R-TE) or Rep. Lindy
Boggs, (D-LA), stating their speci-
fic support of the WASP as fully
qualified veterans.
"I hope the WASPs win this
battle," he said, "anything that I
personally can do, I'll do it."
