Clarence R. Wharton of Houston. Peebles points out that "Per-
haps Mexican jurisdiction did not end simply by virtue of Texan
declarations." This is a point for the consideration of present and
future historians.
Peebles also gives additional information concerning descend-
ants of the original Dr. Robert Peebles.
For your information and possibly further research, the children of
John O. McGhee Peebles, son of Robert Peebles, are: Robert Blake
Peebles, Sr. (1886-1961), who married Ione Clark, now living at
10701 Fairfax, Jacinto City, Houston ag, Texas; John O. McGhee
Peebles (1889-1951), who married Cecila -, who now lives in Hous-
ton, Texas; Fannie B. Peebles (1891) who married Blake Alexander
and inherited most of the ranch where she still lives and has the
family bible and any other records or portraits that might exist;
William Trigg Peebles who lives on a farm in the Concrete com-
munity 15 miles north of Cuero; J. Clarence Peebles who lives on a
farm about five miles west of Nixon on Highway 8o; David Earl
Peebles, known as "Pat," part owner of the Blake Alexander Ranch
and either lives there or on a farm east of Cuero.
Jack Geddie of Fort Worth writes that he has completed an
article on the town of Owlet Green, to be included in a history
of the community of Colfax, in Van Zandt County, which will be
published during 1963.
Claude Maer, John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company,
Fort Worth, recently contributed to the Association three broad-
sides advertising early air shows. He also gave several copies of
the Fort Worth Star Telegram, dating from 1929 to 1933, which
reflect important aerial exploits of the era. The generous gifts
have been placed in the University of Texas Archives in order
that the widest use may be made of them.
The Sons of the Republic of Texas annually present the Sum-
merfield G. Roberts Award to the author of the most outstanding
book on Texas history which concerns the period of the republic.
Ben Proctor, professor of history at Texas Christian University,
was selected to receive the 1962 award for Not Without Honor:
The Life of John H. Reagan.119
