INTER-OFFICE LETTER
FOR MR. D DATE June 2> 19,0
SUBJECT Machines 2-50 SM 51590
WRITE ON BUT ONE SUBJECT TO BE USED BY ALL OFFICERS OR DEPARTMENT
ON THIS SHEET HEADS FOR INTER-OFFICE CORRESPONDENCE
e ar Mr. Dan:
I am in receipt of your letter of June 19. Of
course, shall be glad indeed to have r . Charlie Williamson
visit us and we will show him over our entire operations,
including the brush cutter, the large grader we pull with
a Caterpillar tractor, and the small grader we use in our
farm work operat With a regular farm tractor .
Asyo know, we have between 40O and 600 acres
bruh here to clear and it is going to be quite a whn_,
;fore we can spare our machine as we want to keep it in
aeration full time, depending, of course, on the weather
as the ground has to be good and dry for the machine to
operate efficiently. It is possible, of course, we might
run into a wet spell here when it would be dry at Paragould
and, in that case, we would try to work out an arrangement
for the loan of the machine to the Bertig people.
This machine cost us around $2800.00, and since
u a these people have a couple of hundred acres to be
cleared, they might be interested in buying a machine
rather than waiting on ours and paying the transportation
to Paragould and return to Sugar Land,
As stated, the ground must be good and dry for
us to operate the brush cutter, and since we will certainly
want to be able to operate it when Mr. Williamson is here,
I should like to suggest that we keep the matter in mind
and when we put it in operation, let me contact him by
telephone and, if convenient, he can come down to see us.
Please consider this and let me hear f om you.
To date we have cleared 80 acres, which was don-
n 6 hours As you know, this operation is handled by
one man with our Caterpillar tractor and we figure it cost
us $5.00 per hour, which would make this clearing cost us
$.00 per acre. We plan to go over the acreage again, which
can be done much faster than the original cutting, and the
cost for the second time should run somewhere between $2.00
and $.00, giving a very low per acre total cost as we see it
Yours very truly,
Jame s.
