Dear Mr. Dan:
For your posting in connection with the above, I attach
copy of Mr. Milikien's letter to me of December 13, which
you will find self-explanatory.
As you know, we have been a little, slow in getting started
on this program, but you will note from Mr. Milikien's letter
we have made definite progress this year and our pasture program
will be on the preferred list from here on.
We now have two large diesel tractors, one here and one at
Blakely, which we use in pulling a unit of three 6' stalk cutters.
We cover approximately 17' with this unit and the cost per acre
is considerably less than using regular mowing machines and we
feel it does a much better job as, in addition to cutting the
weeds, the unit loosens up the soil.
To date, we have covered approximately 360 acres with our
brush cutter at a cost of $2249.00, or approximately $6.25 per
acre, which we feel is very reasonable. Unfortunately, we have
been unable to keep this brush cutter going as much as we would
like due to the fact that we needed the Caterpillar tractor for
some drainage work on our farm land.
I feel a comparison of our pastures during the extreme
drought with pastures of our neihbors will be convincing evidence
ghat we are on the right tract, and, as before stated, this
astpure work will have our close attention in the future.
7e want to carry on the experiments you have in mind,
which I wrote you on November 21, so please let me hear
from you at your convenience.
