Jury sentences Scott to six

BELTON - Despite an emotional
plea from Michael Scott's parents
the 22-ycar-old Dallas mail was
sentenced to six yearn in prison for
the March 4 shooting of former
ACU sprinter Rim Walker.
A Bell County jury deliberated
one hour before convicting Scott of
attempted murder. Scott must serve
at least two years because a deadly
weapon was used in the offense.
The jury heard more than two days
of testimony in a retrial moved to
Central Texas after Scon's first at-
torney committed suicide.
Scott representing himself in the
trial took the stand at 9:20 a.m.

Social club presidents learned
Thursday that they will not be
allowed to have out-of-town spring
socials beginning next semester.
The announcement came from
Dr. Gary D. McCaleb vice presi-
dent and dean of campus life at a
meeting with the social club presi-
dents and sponsors.
"It had just gotten to a point
where you couldn't do the things
that were going on without having
to spend an awful lot of money"
McCaleb said.
Students
Christian Homes of Abilene end-
ed its second blood drive for the
year with about 100 pints of blood
donated said "Renna Lambert a
technician at Meek Blood Bank.
The blood drive was conducted
Tuesday through Thursday in the
Main Room of the Campus Center.

The 1988 Sing Song class direc-
tors have been selected by their
doss officers
Brian Davis will conduct the
senior class; Burke Brack will
conduct the junior class; Cary
Roberts will conduct the sopho-
more class; and Wayne Stamps
will conduct the freshmau class.
Each director is responsible for
ftreparing his 100 participants
or the annual production.

and he shot her in the arm he said.
"I didn't want to hurt her I just
wanted to aim at her arm" he said.
"But she kept coming."
He said he thrust the gun forward
again pulling the trigger just as she
turned away to avoid the bullet. He
said that once she fled into the park-

BELTON Kim Walker has no
doubt that Michael Scott intended
to end her life when he placed a gun
to her head and pulled the trigger
during a scuffle in the Gardner Hall
parking lot March 4.
Scott was couvictcd of attempted
murder Wednesday by a Bell Coun-
ty jury after witnesses said he shot
Walker three times.
"At first it seemed like a dream"
she said recalling the spring day
that her husband put his arm
around her neck pointed a .22-
caliber pistol to her head and pulled
the trigger.
"It happened so fast" she said.

Leaders for the Spring Break Cam-
paigns have been chosen and are
pending approval from the ad-

A meeting is scheduled for Mon-
day at 7:30 p.m. in the Mam Room
of the Campus Center for all stu-
dents interested in going on a cam-
paign. Sign-ups are Dec. 1-Feb. 12 in
the Students' Association office.
Students may choose the trip they
wTJnt to participate in but trips wflr
be filled on a first-come first-served
basis said Fleming sophomore
public relations major from Austin.
A $25 deposit is required when
signing up. No refunds will be
given after Feb. 1 because of the
cost of canceled travel arrangements
and reservations Fleming said.
Applicants may however sign up
through Feb. 19 if they pay for
their trip in full.

Walker's "fighting spirit" was all
that kept her alive as she struggled
to break free from Scott's grasp
causing the bullet to only graze
rather than enter her head.
She also was shot once in the arm
and shoulder the bullet remains
in her body and once in the back.
That bullet penetrated her stom-
ach and emergency surgery was re-
quired to save her life testimony in
the trial revealed.
"I'm alive I'm. not going to
worry about it" Walker remembers;
thinking when she realized she was'
bleeding from the head.

may be asked to do a variety of
things Fleming said. "Our primary
goal is to do what the church needs
done to meet the needs of the
church and the community."
Activities may include door-
knocking contacting prospective
church members conducting Bible
studies and helping the church with
service projects Fleming said.
Participants are required to pur-
chase their own airline tickets.
Room and board is supplied by the
members of the congregation he
said.
Fleming said students may wont
to consider the price of the tickets
when choosing the campaign In
which to participate. Projected cost
of travel arrangements will be avail-
able at the meeting Monday.
Students who cannot come up
with the funds for purchasing their
tickets may want to write their
hometown congregations for a spon-
sorship Fleming said.
"If you start early enough you
can raise the money" he said.
