in Denver, Colorado the past
month is home for a visit with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed-
ward Bennett.
Dee Green, Cottle County
Tripple A Administrator and
family are vacationing this week
in New Mexico.
Mr. and Mrs. Oran Mowrey
and Mr. and Mts. Ray Wilson are
in Colorado Springs, Colorado,
this week on vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Ellis of
Houston were here the first of
the week visiting relatives and
friends. Wylie returned home
Tuesday, but Mrs. Ellis will visit
here two or three weeks.

The Valley View Home De-
monstration Club met Tuesday
afternoon Aug. 13th in the home
of Mrs. Arthur Grayum. After
a short business session the
group enjoyed games led by Mrs.
G. N. Robertson, Sr.
Cookies and punch were served
to Mesdames G. N. Robertson,
Sr., Tom^ Findley, Jack Beavers,
A. W. Wilson, Joe Tye, Ted
Grayum. One guest, Bobbie Jean
Grayum and the hostess.

Members of the KaSus Club
will meet at 3 o’clock Friday af-
ternoon, Aug. 16, at the Kil-
lingsworth Drug. Bobbye Jean
Graham is hostess and transpor-
tation will be furnished to her
home. Every member urged to

Babe Graves, Guthrie was a
business visitor in Paducah Fri-
day and while in town came in,
and renewed his subscription to
the Post.
Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Miller
of Hereford were here last Fri-
day and Saturday visiting Mr.
and Mrs. Dawson Reid and Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Farmer.
Misses Onita, Juanita and Joy
Lynn Gibbs of Delwin were in
Anson from Friday until Tues-
day visiting friends.
A. D. Moor of Odell; L. M.
Moore of Overton; George Moore
of Levelland; Marvin Moore of
Los Angeles, Calif., were here
over the week end visiting their
father, S. H. Moore, who has
been very ill in the Richards
Memdrial Hospital.
S. A. Deason is home from
Venezuela for a few weeks visit-
ing his family. They left for
California this week for a vaca-
tion.

ftlarned Saturday
Andrew Carter, son of Mr. and
Mrs. A J. Carter of this city and
Miss Peggy Roberts, daughter of
Mrs. Tinnie Roberts, Mangum,
Oklahoma, were united in mar-
riage Saturday evening, August
10, at the home of Mrs. Bud
Barron, Justice of the Peace.
The bride attended the Man-
gum, Okla. schools and for the
past several months has been em-
ployed in a cafe at Mangum.
Mr. Carter will be remembered
as one of the much publicized
“Two Man Alamo” that made
the gallant stand on Iwo Jima.
Not many months ago Carter
received the second highest deco-
ration for extraordinary heroism,
the Navy Cross.
Carter has received as much or
more publicity through radio,
magazines, and newspapers from
coast to coast than any other
soldier who served in the service
of his country during World War
Two.
Mr. Carter is employed at the
Paducah City Bakery and the
couple will make their home
here.
LOCAL BRIEFS
Wylie Boyle and J. F. Powell
who with their families are vaca-
tioning in Aspen, Colorado were
in Paducah the first of the week.
Mr. Boyle tending to business
and Mr. Powell visiting a bro-
ther, Leon Powell, who has been
seriously ill in a Quanah hospital.
The men returned to Aspen Wed-
nesday to continue their vaca-
tion.

at the City Park Thursday Aug.
8 at 5:00.
The group enjoyed a picnic
given by the committee mothers

Barrett and Mrs. Wilkerson.
Plans for the next meeting
were discussed with Mrs. D. Ben-
nett as leader.

Ann Fox, Shirley Walker, Betty
Jane Bennett, Linda Weatherall,
Alice Ann Hageman, Lanell Clark,
Carice Long, Patsy Wilkerson,

Davidson.

meet each Thursday at 4:00 at

cana, Ark., are visiting Mr. and
Mrs. Lowell Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. M. Parks are
visiting relatives in Breckenridge
and Graham, Texas this week.
Truitt Smith and Jinks Wilson
were in Matador Sunday to see
the match roping.
Mr. and Mrs. Charley Hart were
in Fort Worth Monday with a
load of cattle.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hext of
Throckmorton, Texas visited her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. T.
Flippins.
Claud Graham Adams of San
Angelo, Texas is visiting rela-
tives here.
Mrs. Robert Gage and sons
returned to their home in La-
mesa, after a weeks visit with
her mother, Mrs. Bertha Johnson
and other relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. Billie Morris and
daughters spent the week end at
Carlsbad, N. M., viewing the
caverns.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Forrest
have returned from Florida
where they visited their daughter,
Katherine and her husband.
Pfc. Lafayett Dozier returned
home last week with a discharge
He saw duty in Hawaii, Iwo
Jima and China with the U.S.M.C.
Dawson Reid was looking after
interests here Sunday.
Miss Kirby Norris daughter of
RMr. and Mrs. Bill Norris and
Mr. Dumas Oliver were married
August 5. Judge Riley performed
the ceremony. The couple will re-
side on the 4-H Ranch where
Mr. Oliver is employed.
Carl Jones, Lubbock, spent the
week-end with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. H. R. Jones.

friends. He was one of the early
practicing physicians in Paducah,
having left here in 1912.

turned from a.n extended vaca-
tion at Aspen, Colo.
Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Moses and
children, Peggy Jean and Jackie
Sue, left Saturday night for their
home in Waco after having been

Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Evans, Jr.

visited last week end with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. T.
Evans Sr. of the Vivian Commun-
ity. Mr. and Mrs. Evans are both
teachers in the Amarillo Schools.
Dr. and Mrs. J. Mac Taylor
of Springfield, Mass., are visiting
here this week with his mother,
Dr. Ruby L. Taylor.
Zack Isbell is having a new
sign painted on the front of his
drug store this week.
Grady J. La,ne. Jr., son of
County Agent G. J. Lane is visit-
ing here this week. He recently
received his discharge from the
army.
Elizabeth Jennings, Freedonia,
Texas visited the first part of
the week in Paducah with her
sister, Mrs. Gradv Lane and fam-

Mr. and Mrs. N. P. Savage and
Grover Gunn were guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Calvin Reed over the
week-end. Mr. Gunn is the bro-
ther of Mrs. Reed and formerly
resided in' this city prior to en-
tering the service about five
years ago. Mrs. Savage is the mo-
ther of Mrs. Reed and her
grandson, Leon, accompanied
j them, home to Plainview, Texas
for a two weeks vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Loar visit-
ed last week in Dodson, Texas
(with J. Smith and wife. Mrs.
Loar states those Colorado and
New Mexico vacationers have
nothing to brag about, as they
had to jdeep under blankets

An air conditioner at the
building formerly occupied by the
McDougle Beauty and Barber
Shop was ignited Wednesday af-
ternoon while a welding job was
in process, but quick work with
fire extinguishers soon had the
blaze under control.
Charlie Matthews
of Fort Worth will speak in the behalf of
