Lower phone
rates planned
over holidays
Because Christmas and
New Year’s fall on Mondays
this year, the calendar
provides more days to save
money on long distance
telephone calls over the
holidays, a spokesman for
General Telephone Co, said
today.
Christmas and New Year’s
calls can be made over four-
day periods at reduced long
distance rates, according to
Garnett Keithley, General
Telephone’s Sherman division
manager.
The low rates begin on the
Friday before each holiday.
The low, evening rate will
begin at 5 p.m. for direct-dial
long distance, Keithley said.
The lower weekend rate will
begin at 11 p.m. each Friday
and remain in effect through
Saturday until 5 p.m. Sunday.
On Christmas and New
Year’s Day the special'rate
(same as the evening rate)
will be in effect from 8 a.m.
to 11 p.m.
“Remember, these reduced
long distance rates apply only
to direct-dial calls,” he ad-
ded. “Operator-placed calls
always cost more.”
