HELP THEM TO LIVE
Persons over 65 and under five years of age account for
nearly three-fourths of the accidental deaths in the home every
year! Two out of three killed in this group are people who are
past the 65-y.earmark.
From these figures, declares the National Conservation
Bureau, accident prevention division of the Association of
Casualty and Surety Executives, it is obvious that infants re-
ceive more care at home than do the old folks. And it must
also be clear to all of us that grandma’ and grandpa’ have many
of the physical handicaps characteristic of age, and that they
certainly need as much surveillance and care as we give the
little tots.
Many of us who avoid accidents will grow old one day,
and we should practice some of the safety measures now that
may protect us later.
WASHINGTON
NEWS LETTER
Eugene Worley
Last week the House took up
the annual appropriation bill for
agriculture, which is of great im-
portance to farmers and ranchers
and others living in rural com-
munities.
Some of the more important
provisions which are of interest
to the Texas Panhandle are;
(1) Soil Conservation Service.
Over the country new districts
are being organized at a very
rapid rate. For example, in 1945
there were 1,346 Soil Conserva-
tion Districts and by midyear the
number had increased to 1,463.
It is expected that by the end of
1946 there will be 1,580 Dis-
tricts completely organized. The
Committee recommended the ap-
propriation of two million dollars
for the purchase of heavy equip-
ment from government surplus

er, who resides about one mile
northeast of town, is announcing
this week for the office of Com-

had not been my intention to
enter the race for commissioner
precinct 3, during the present
campaign, but since many of my
friends have asked that I seek
the office, have decided to do so.”
Mr. Sanderson solicits the vote
and influence of every one in
this precinct, and promises if the
