Syracuse Youngster Will Never Forget
His Meeting With His Hero,
Theodore Roosevelt.
__ •
Theodore Roosevelt, the man wire
made und held strong friendship*
among men, wus beloved by children.
He loved them und they admired
him, made a hero of him.
When he was at Syracuse, during
the famous Barnes libel trial, a citizen
sitting on his vernmiu, saw Roosevelt
riding by for his accustomed exercise,
and called to his wife, “There goe*
Theodore Roosevelt on horseback."
The six-year-old son of the house was
In the bathfub when he heard the an-
nouncement, and rushed downstairs
without watting to dress, to see Ids
h<>ro pass. His father told the story
at a reception that night, and the
colonel said: "Bring that boy to me—
I want to see him." So the hoy was
brought, and for half uu hour sat on
the knee of bis Idol, listening to sto-
ries of life In the West, of Indians
and grizzlies and African lions, and It
has been said that when he was
taken home. In a state of mental In-
toxication, he had grown an Inch In
height.
Stone Goes the Rounds.
A merchant in a little towrn does
business with an illiterate farm wom-
an who comes to town once a month
and trades him 20 pounds of butter
for 20 pounds of sugar.
She Is too Ignorant to know the
price of butter, but she Is smart enough
to know other things. The butter she
brings him comes in the form cf a big
rqll, and inside the roll of butter the
woman always hides a stone weighing
three pounds. Every time she brings
the butter the merchant cuts open the
roll and takes out the stone and puts
It In the seek of sugar before he
weighs It. Thus, th’F woman gets 17
pounds of sugar for 17 poundd^Df but-
ter, and Imagines she Is chesting the
merchant.
The stone eomes hack In the roll
of butter every month, and the mer-
chant sends It baek just as regulsrly

no newspaper published in the 29th judicial
district, then in some newspaper published in
the nearest district to said 29th judicial dis-
trict, to appear at the next regular term of
th honorable district court of Erath county, to
bo hoiden at the court house thereof in Ste-
phenville, on the second day of June, 1919, the
same being the first Monday in June, 1919,
to answer a petition filed in said court on the-
first day of May, 1919, numbered No. 4fi88 on
the docket of said court, wherein Myrtle Bar-
rens is plaintiff and Earnest Parrons is de-
fendant, said petition being substantially as
follows:
The state of Texas, county of Erath. In
the district court of Erath county, Texas, June
term, 1919. To the Hon. J. B. Keith, Judge
of said court; Myrtle Barrens, hereinafter
styled plaintiff, institutes this suit against Ear-
nest Barrens, hereinafter designated as de-
fendant, and respectfully shows to the court
that plaintiff is an actu aland bona fide res-
ident of the state of Texas, and has been for
more than one year next prior hereto, and
has resided in Erath county more than six
months next preceding the institution of this
suit .
For cause of action plaintiff states the fol-
lowing facts, towit:
That the plaintiff and defendant were law- |
fully married 6n September 12, 1918. and that
the bonds of matrimony thereby created are |
still in existence. |
That the plaintiff, in obedience to her mar-
tiffital vows after said marriage went unto de- !
fendant and made him a true and faithful
wife, at all times conducting herself as a
loving and dutiful wifetoward the defendant. ;
Notwithstanding the kind and affectionat*
treatment by the plaintiff toward defendaii*.
as aforesaid, the defendant a short while after j
the marriage aforesaid began u coarse of harsh
cruel and unkind treatment toward plaintoiff,
cursing and abusing her and applying vile ep-
ithets to her, which were unwarranted and
without just cause or provocation on the part
of plaintiff, und for which she was not m
any wise the cause.
That in addition to the foregoing, a short
while after Jhe marriage aforesaid, the plain-
tiff moved to Waco with the defendant, whey*
they resided until September 1918, whea til*
defendant ii !«■ m ■» plaintiff that het did not
care to i- -1 her longer as man and
wife, and told yiuintiff to go home t»j he*
father and mother, and thereupon th* de-
fendant disposed of the household lurnitur*
an dwould not provide a home for plaintUL
and thereupon the plaintiff was forced to go.
hometo her parents, and since which time
they have not lived together as husband and
wife. Plaintiff alleges that such treatment
the part of the defendant was intolerable and
insupportable and contrary to the marital
vows and was a breach of the. marriage eo*
tract by defendant, and that the treatment
last herein recited amounted to abandonment,
of plaintiff by defendant, and by reason of ah
of which she is entitled to a divorce from the
defendant.
Wherefore she prays for citation by publi-
cation to the defendant as required by las*,
and that upon a hearing hereof she be giver
judgment cancelling and annulling the bonds
o fmatrimony created by Raid marriage, and.
for such other and further relief in law anit
equity, general and special to which she may
be entitled under the facts alleged and th*
evidence adduced on the trial.
Herein fail not but have you before sale

regular term thereof, with your return -there-
on, showing how you have executed the same.
