FAIN NAYLOR
SERIOUSLY HURT
About 5 o’clock Thursday ev-
juat before the Empire
was ready to go to press. Mias
Fain Naylor was ,seriously in-
m
and Miss Minn Ferguson
hurt in front of the First
Baptist church, when Miss Per-
fttton lost control of her car and
ran against the northeast oorner
of the church house. Miss Nay-
lor was thrown out and sustaind
a bad gash on her cheek and a
worse one in the back of the
Ipad which rendered her uncon-
scious. The las test word was
that her father Dr. 8- D. Naylor
fears concussion of the brain
may ensue. Miss Naylor was
conscious at 5:30 when the last
report we could use was receiv-
ed. Miss Ferguson was slightly
cut on the right arm presumably
by the broken wind shield.
It was the understanding that
Dr. Naylor was to take his
danghteFfo a sahftariumoh the
early morning train today.

district in congress and was lat-
er governor, m
Young Lanham made a great
speech of the intensely patriot!
style $nd was a winner with
that k|ig bunch of Americans
that heard him.
At the conclusion of his ad-
dress subscriptions were called
for by Judge F. H. Chandler
for liberty bonds and about $57.-
000 was subscribed. The sub-
scriptions of $1000 or more were
as follows: First National bank
$10,000; Fanners* National bank
$10,000; Cage & Crow $10,000;
Mrs. Mary Corn Wilkerson by J.
J. Bennett $2600; Ed Hatchett
by W. H. Frey $1,000; John
Tarleton Agricultural College
faculty by L. C. Sellers $1,050;
Higginbotham Bros. & Co. $10,-
000; Oscar Davis and sons $1,550.
It is believed that at least fifty
thousand dollars more will be
added to the list J by the close of
banking hours today and thus
complete Erath county’a. quota
of $191,000, which up to Wednes-
day night was about $50,000

The gentlemen of this city
who were largely instrumental
in stageing this very successful
rally, greatly appreciated the
presence of so many enthusias-
tic ladies and gentlemen from
Dublin and Bluff Dale, in both
of which towns a rally had al-
ready been held and been liber-
ally taken care of, Dublin re-
porting about $80,000 and Bluff
Dale $4,000 with another thou*'
and practically assured. * The
presence of these live wire visl<»
tors with their faces beaming
dith patriotism because thdy
had already “done their bit,”
had a wholesome effect on the
Stephenville rally which made
all of us glad that our neighbors
came.
Bluff Dale merchants closed
their doors and came over $o
help in the good w/ork. < We
have heard the number of auto^
loads from there, reported as
high as twenty and from the
many Bluff Dale people we met
it seems reasonable that it would
have required that many cars to
bring them. We could not get a
count on the Dublin visitors but
they were also numerous and
every one a jive wire American
Patriot.
