Not four three or two events just
one Head track coach Wes
Kittley will give his team a break
Saturday at the University of Texas-
Arlington Invitational Meet by enter-
ing most athletes in only one event
"We are going to run individual
events" Kittley said "We expect one
good performance instead of two or
three We are going for quality"
Kittley said he was not entering any
of the relay teams or running athletes
in multiple events because they
needed rest He said they would
focus on qualifying in specific events
I In the last few weeks ACU has com-
peted in the Penn Relays won the
Lone Star Conference Meet compet-
ed at Angelo State and the Texas
Relays
Both the men's and womenls 4x100-
rneter and 4x400 meter relays have
qualified for the national meet
The meet in Arlington is an allcom
ers meet Kittley said teams send ath
letes that still need to qualify for the
national meet which is Ma 22 24 in
Edwardsvillc 111
"It is sort or a fun meet" he said
"We have finals next week and it Is a
stressful time for the kids "
Kittley said a few more athletes
need to quilif but most of the team
will be ready for nationals
"We arc 90 percent qualified but
there is alwas that 10 percent you
want to qualify out there " he said
The coach said the womens trim
needed the high junipers to qualify
along with Tamcka Rodriquez who
runs the 800 meters
Jaime Hallmark broke the school
record in the high jump last year at
the natioml meet with a 5-10 Her
highest jump this season is a 5 3
Renm Tonistc and Tracey Gust have
both qualified provisiomlly in the
event with mirks of 5 8 34 and 5-7
Tonistc will not be competing
because of a knee injury she sus
talncd at the LSC Meet
Rodriquez has broken the LSC
record in the 800 meters but is has
not qualified for the national meet
Rodriquezs time of 2 15 43 is less
than two seconds from provisional
qualification she needs a 2 10 5 to
qualify automatically
Kittley said he hoped Marvin
Robertson would qualify in the high
jump and Tony Waters would qualify
in the long jump
Waters has jumped 23-10 14 this
season which is less than an inch
short of provisional qualification He
must reach the mark of 25 4 to qual-
ify Robertson is provisionally qualified
with a jump or 6-10 7-1 is the quali-
fication mark
Nine men and six women have
qualified for nationals
Among those who have qualified is
Delloreen Ennis who will not com-
pete because of a slight concussion
she sustained at the Penn Relays last
