Yankees last month was first
baseman Jackie Robinson, first
Negro in modern baseball.
Last week, on a four-week
vaudeville tour, Robinson was
packing them in colored thea-
teres, was high in his praise of
Dodgers’ President Branch Rick-
ey, who had given him his big
league chance.
Inadvertently, however, Robin-
son revealed chat for his great
contribution to Dodger play he
had received only “about $5,000”
and that “that’s why I’ve got to
make this four-week stage
tour.”
The 1947 baseball income for
Bob Feller, key man of the
fourth-place Cleveland Indians
and the American League’s only
20-game winner last season:
