of Skidmore. The meeting had

closed a trade with J. J. Mitchell
of Kenedy for the Mitchell stock
of goods, which has been under the
management of E. H. Mitchell here.
The consideration is a tract of land
near Corpus Christi. Avant & Ped-
erson are moving the stock into the
corner room of the Mitchell build-
ing and will dispose of it at retail

Messrs. Tom and Henry Barta,

Mrs. Albina Krenek and three
children were hunting dew berries
around Engle, the other day.

afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Anton

The Charlottenburg school

liked by all. He made a nice talk
to his scholars after school. They
are well pleased with him. We
hope he may teach here again

have asked me to organize a
Choral Club and I have decided
to do so, if all the singers in
Hallettsville wdll join and make
it a success. We are going to or-
ganize Monday night, May 27th,
at the Methodist church at 8 o’-
clock and all singers are urged
to -jbe present at that time so we
can talk over the organization
and elect officers.

Infant Dead.
May 23.—We are sorry to chron-
icle the death of the infant boy of
Mr. and Mrs. Aug. Novak, which
suddenly died Tuesday night. The
cause of its death is not exactly
known. We extend sympathy to
the bereaved parents.
Ignatz Maresh and Mrs. Jose-
phina Srubar were united in the
holy bonds of matrimony at Hal
lettsville Monday. The happy
couple have our best wishes for a
long and happy married life.
A little mistake crept in my last
letter. Where it says Breslau dance
it should.have been Moravia dance.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Windel left Mon-
day before last for St. Jose, where
they are staying for their health.
Say “Devil” we will soon have
some fine watermelons. Will bring
ypu one as soon as they are ripe.
Ferdinand Bareckv of Hack-
berry visited his parents here Sun-
day.
Let’s all take in the May feast
at the Wie^ schoolhouse next Sun-
day.

A male member of the Salva-
tion Army was here soliciting
funds Wednesday. He claims
that the woman who was here
last week soliciting funds for the
Salvation Army was an imposter
and he was on her trail. Ho says
the woman at one time belonged
to the Army but is now a “mis-
representative” member.
Miss Franciska Slavik, daugh-
ter of Frank Slavik, of near town
last Thursday week received the
white veil at the St. Mary’s Ca-
tholic church with the intention
of becoming a nun. Rev. M. J.
Mertes of this city, was master of
ceremonies.
Sick Folks Improving.
May 21.—Am glad to report that
Mrs. Hermann Schulz and baby
Thelma are slowly recovering from
their sickness.
Fair weather prevailed here the
last few days and the farmers took
advantage of it to capture “Gen-
eral Green.”
Saturday night a crowd of his
friends and the Eagle band sur-
prised Louis Schultz on his birth-
day. Here’s good luch, Louis.
The Ideal band boys (except
Hermann Schultz who couldn’t go
on account of his family being sick)
left Friday night for Lindenau
where they furnished music for the
May feast Saturday. They return-
and reported having had a royal
good time. |
A good many of our people at-
tended the Ladies Cemetery Asso-
ciation picnic at Old Kinkier Sun-
day and found, a large crowd in
attendance and all spent a few
happy hours.
Henry Spies just now rattled
down the road on hjs way to the
South. What’s the matter brother
Henry ?
I. Rheinstrom of your town pass-
ed through our burg with a nice
bunch of horses and mules.
The talk of the day is: “Are you
going to the big king feast in Hal-
lettsville on Pentecost Monday?”
and the answer you get is: “Of
course I will if nothing happens.”
Ben Stratmann and wife of Oak
Grove were going through here Sat-
urday evening on their way to Ap-
pelt’s Hill on a visit to the home-
folks.
V illie V inkier is planning to go
to Hobson on a visit to relatives
and friends. They will make the
trip overland in their “Ford”
honk.
The automobile record was broken
here Tuesday evening when about
forty Moulton citizens passed
through here in eight decorated au-
tomobiles. They made the rounds
in order to advertise their agricul-
tural fair which will be given in
that lovely city on June 25, 26 27
and 28.
Gust Spies and family attended
the birthday celebration at Joe
Koehler’s Thursday of last week.
The writer went over to Breslau
Ascension day (Thursday). Most
all the people aronnd here celebrat-
ed that day.
Ernst Schulz who left a few
months ago to furnish music for a
show company returned here and
will in the future clerk again in
his brother’s store. Glad to see you
back, Ernest.
A. B .Stratman and family vis-
ited here Sunday evening.
Miss Ida Boedecker of Shiner is
staying with the family of F. W.
Michalis at present.
Otto Sehreiber was seen riding a
young horse around here Thursday

business visitor in our community

tend the ladies’ picnic in Breslau
the second Sunday in June.

canvassed our burg a few days the
past week. We failed to learn
whether they sold any around here
or not.
Fritz Albrecht went over to Shi-
ner on business Friday.
John Rogger of Houston visited
here a couple of days the past week.
